3-4 Defense alignment against Nebraska and moving forward

I personally was not that impressed with DJ Elliott's plan for the Nebraska game or for that matter the idea of having Lewis and Taylor man the outside LB's/Buff Back this year at the same time! I think that puts too small of players on the field against big OL. After watching the game again, while we had lots of speed on the outside, Nebraska just ran it right up the middle on essentially our 3 Defensive Linemen. I was actually thinking how it would have been really creative to actually play a bit of a 4-3 against the Huskers, because they had watched all our film, and they could have been confused when we were in a 4 man front and the blocking schemes were switched. We have some decent depth on the DL, so there were bodies to be used for that scheme. Even Falo and Callier were more effective in the right situations, but it looked like Taylor and Lewis logged a lot of snaps. Just commenting on an obvious weakness, although I will give Elliott credit for making adjustments in the second half and playing much better!

Taylor played a lot better after he got benched for a bit in favor of Trego.

Need to keep getting bigger at the LB spots. Ideally, our outside guys would be Wells and Falo, but Wells is still young and inexperienced, and Falo doesn't offer enough rushing the passer.

Waste of an off-season if that's all he worked on and it still isn't a strength. Merely pointing out that from the outside looking in (not able to get to Boulder for practices) it seemed that he was going to be put into that role. Since he hadn't played in a over a year my memory of his skills wasn't that reliable.

OLB has quite a bit of talent. Right now, everyone we have is learning the position. Taylor and Trego are new to the program, Callier and Wells are inexperienced, Falo was out of football last year and played here under a different coordinator, and Lewis was an ILB his first 4 years of college football. It's a position I expect to improve dramatically as the season progresses.

How dare you put a positive spin on this thread!

Hope you're right man, that needs to happen.
