Yeah they did. Saw the UCLA game from 2002 on PAC12 networks, and man did we dominate. Smashmouth, grind em down, north south running. Kinda hard to watch actually knowing the heights from which we've fallen.
I re-watched the highlights from the Nebraska game and, without exaggeration, I could have easily run through the holes. Literally car-size. Of course, I would have been terminally injured when I emerged from said holes, but at least it would have been eight yards down the field.

Those guys were badass. I love this program and loved the style of ball we played for more than a decade...swagger and attitude and the athletes to back it up.
Seriously, watch this and pay attention to the body language. The badassness just radiates. The attitude radiates. The competitiveness and confidence radiates. Those guys were just plain nasty. This is the most "real" football I've ever seen. But you can't do this without the jimmys and joes.

Does Powell resemble Purify at all? Obviously Powell is much slower than Purify, but there styles are similar from what I have seen. I was 7 in 2001 so the memory is foggy.
Not at all. Purify had a really smooth running form, had the lean you like to see. Powell does not look like a natural runner.

Don't get me wrong, epic game that will never be forgotten.
But I really look forward to the day we get back to even semi-relevancy and stop have to relive games of 13 years ago as our taste of college football relevancy in November. Just a damn bowl game of any sort. Please.
