This week, Buff Nation turns its eyes to that team up north in what looks to have the potential to be a season defining game. Saturday, September 19th, 5pm MT, Mile High Denver, "home" game for CSU.
2 years ago, CSU had its best team in probably decades and CU its worst team. Somehow the Buffs won.
Last year, CSU had lost a few good players and CU was better, but we saw a CSU team that had learned how to win and a CU team that found ways to lose... with CU not capitalizing on its early dominance in the game and then not being able to answer after CSU figured out its run game and gained a bit of momentum. The Rammies rejoiced.
So what about this year?
CSU sucks and the Buffs will crush them.
In what is being billed (as of this moment) as "The Battle of the Bobos", CSU brings a team in transition that has talent in spots and has developed that all-important winning culture the past couple seasons. CU shows up with a team still trying to figure out how to be as good on the field as they are on paper.
Was last week against UMass a turning point or will we see a Buff squad that is unable to find consistency and build on success?
I honestly don't know. All I'm really sure of is that it sucks to be a CSU Ram and that the Buffaloes are going to roll on Saturday.
The key to this game can be summed up in 2 words: Star Wars. This is the year that the continuing saga in that galaxy far, far away gets the long-awaited Episode 7. Luke is likely some sort of badass Yoda at this point and Han will be an aging gigolo firing off snarky one-liners as he tools around on some sort of futuristic Little Rascal.
Should be epic.
And why this is important is that CU has embraced The Force. Their uniforms for Saturday night? That's right, folks, it will be the Storm Trooper.
And what to Buffs do when they're risen from the greatest bounty hunter in the history of the galaxy and trained from birth to destroy?
Huge hat tip to CL34 for making these GIFs. And now for a shameless plug: you can see more of these and a whole lot of other cool stuff at BuffStampede. (Munsterteiger better buy me a beer or something.)
So what to joke about? Hmmm. I'm trying to avoid all of the little brother stuff, all of the ripping on the sterile NFL stadium environment for a college football game, inappropriate jokes about some of the stuff that's happened up at CSU in recent years, pointing out the unrealistic group insanity that seems to grip CSU fans, academic rep smack, the century of CU dominance in this game, or any visuals of that horrible orange CSU has integrated into its unis and that they seem to think looks cool.
I guess that leaves sheep fvcking. Which is really no joking matter at all. It's a proud tradition, rite of passage, and general way of life for the folks up north. I know, I know. I'm probably being unfair. I hear it all the time from CSU fans: "until you've walked a mile in our high boots and trapped a ewe's hind legs in those boots, you have no right to judge".
But this is the year 2015. The year of Star Wars Episode 7. Boinking a sheep is so Episodes 4-6.
The page has turned. The disturbing rise of the CSU sheep lovers meets its glorious end on Saturday as the CU storm troopers return the football world to its natural order.
