The plan is a working document which identifies The American’s core philosophies and activation plans that will support the league’s mission. The Conference’s Strategic Planning Subcommittee, led by East Carolina University Director of Athletics and Chair of the Athletic Directors Committee Jeff Compher, and the Commissioner and his staff, worked collaboratively with the various conference constituencies as well as with consultants Wasserman Media Group, to develop this plan.

“Our aim as a Power 6 conference is to pursue academic and athletic excellence at every level and within the context of our core values,” Aresco said. “Our mission statement and series of goals and strategies reflect the collective spirit of our schools as our student-athletes seek to distinguish themselves in their academic, athletic and personal pursuits. Our schools also seek to engage effectively with their communities and with their peers in the intercollegiate community. This document provides a blueprint for our Conference’s continued growth and success, and serves to enhance our cohesion and camaraderie in pursuit of our shared objectives. I want to thank Jeff Compher and all those who worked on our Plan for their outstanding contributions.”

This makes some sense, but I think they're going to need to shift things with some of their member schools in order to make this happen while expanding. Should look hard at BYU, for example.

What am I missing? It reads as if it's just the AAC rebranding...then why "power 6"? If there were 6 conferences involved in a major rebranding, that would be cool. Otherwise what's so great about rebranding etc? A little lost here.

They want to be considered the equal of the ACC, Big Ten, Big 12, SEC and Pac-12 instead of where they currently are in the "G5" with the MWC, C-USA, Sun Belt and MAC.

I could be persuaded if I could name one AAC member off the top of my head....

Okay. That makes sense...I'm in urgent care right now so not tracking that well

I appreciate what they're trying to do, but c'mon. Houston, Memphis, Cincinnati, etc. are not the equivalent of Oklahoma, Texas, and West Virginia. And yes, I know Houston beat OU last year. Upsets happen all the time, that doesn't elevate those schools to P5 status.

Big 12 has nothing on them.

for sure. this "aac" (whatever it is) could probably get far more guys into the nfl than the b12 is doing without CU and the fuskers propping the league up.

Big XII went 4-2 in bowl games. better than the PAC , SEC, and Big 10. i wouldn't say the conference is dead. TV deal and population density in an advertising world have been the enemy of the plains states....

No love for the **** Bailer beating UCF Knights?

I love "core values." Do any of you know what your company's "core values" are?

If you ever want a good chuckle, read a core values statement from a bank. "We strive to be the best in our community blah, blah, blah"
Talk about piling it deep.

How cynical...I'm sure that's what Wells Fargo was thinking by opening up over 2 million fraudulent accounts :D

great point, if it were 1996.

not going to bother finding the link, but the b12 had, i believe, the fewest players drafted of any p5 conference. by a pretty wide margin. the grass basketball approach to football is not conducive to proper nfl prep. if CU and the fuskers were still in the p12, the conference would be far, far stronger; far more respected; and far more likely to put guys into the league, which is important for recruiting, obviously.

and, yes, in my mind, we are always on top, even when we are not. this last 10 years or so, that was just a blip; a mere annoyance. we are BACK. i believe!

What the AAC is missing is an anchor program or two for football. There's no question that they have many schools with the commitment and resources to be like a Washington State or Purdue or TCU or Wake Forest or Vanderbilt or etc. UCF, USF, Houston and UConn are certainly programs that anyone could see being a solid member of a P5 conference. But they don't have a USC or Oklahoma or Michigan or Alabama or Florida State. The P5 conferences all have multiple Top 30 type programs in them and the AAC doesn't have a single one. At least not in football. In basketball, there's an elite with UConn and programs like Wichita State, Temple, Houston and SMU bring a lot of cache.

That conference is full of the stupid.

Letting Notre Dame part way in, for NDs convenience is one example. pissing off the core baseketball Big East schools like Georgetown and letting them leave was not smart

Notre Dame is part way in the ACC. Different than the AAC. I for one, am glad the Big East basketball schools joined together and said screw you to the now AAC.

Notre Dame was part of the Big East in all sports but Football in the 90s. Notre Dame was having a hard time scheduling their non football sports without a conference. Now they are part of the ACC under the same arrangement. If I were conference comissioner I'd have told them all or nothing.
