Adkins' Status?

1989Buff

62-36
Hey guys, sorry to create a thread for my own little needs here, but I just was reading another thread talking about the lack of a run game against WSU, and I thought "Is it just me...or have we heard nothing about Michael Adkins' status for a while?"
I realize hamstrings (wasn't that the injury?) can take a long time to heal, but this has essentially cost him the season. Any news on him at all? I thought he was our most gifted back, and this year was poised to have the benefit of some experience under his belt. Anyone know what happened? Is this really the hammy still? Or did I miss some news about a re-aggravation to the injury or something? I guess I think it's weird I haven't heard more about his progress or anything. I might have missed news on this, but it seemed he just fell off even the discussion radar. I can't help but think we could really have used him recently.

Last I heard was a post-practice interview in which HCMM said they were considering a redshirt.

He'll be eligible for a medical redshirt since he only played in 3 games. That is if he doesn't play against Utah, which would be incomprehensible.

I'm hoping they move him on this year. When you can't play in over 10% of any given season without being hurt, college football isn't for you. And that's discounting the posts I've seen that says he doesn't have the "want to" that's needed to play through pain. We need more 'ships this year and he's an obvious candidate to me.

Glass body. Some guys just can't shake the injury bug. Too bad, because I think he is the best all around back CU has, although I think Carr has more upside.

Do they really want this?

100% agree.

Scholarships are guaranteed for four years now. We could have him apply for a medical retirement, but if your just fragile im not sure that it would be approved.

It would help him if he were to consider (or be encouraged to consider) a transfer. And, in general, preserving eligibility only has upside. You don't have to give a fifth (or sixth) scholarship year, but it's nice to preserve the option.

There's really no scenarios whereby he can benefit from not using the redshirt this year since he hasn't played enough.

If he returns to CU, he preserves a year. If it didn't work out here next year, I presume he's on track to graduate (smart kid) and would have a year left for graduate transfer with no penalty. Either scenario gives him 2 years on the field. As does transfering down a division.

If he transfers across, he will have to sit next year and have 1 to play 1 either way, since he had not yet used his redshirt year. He would not be entitled to a 6th year, unless he later missed a 2nd year due to injury.

Coach Mac basically said he'd redshirt unless he was able to help us this week and there's no way he can since he's not been practicing with the team thru Tuesday (last it was reported). So basically, he's definitely 100% redshirting this year.

I"m also not sure if he's just had bad luck, or is soft. I don't believe in being injury prone. Eventually, the tide tips in your favor if you really want to play and really want to keep at it. I've seen it hinted he's soft, but I hate when I hear that unless it's from a really good source. I don't know the sources in this case so I just hope it hasn't been a string of bad luck for the kid.

Mac officially ruled him out on Tuesday and said they will apply for a medical redshirt.
