Aftershocks of CU's move to the Pac-12 still ongoing...

Kraft probaly talked them into this to get some $$ flowing through his stadium that would otherwise be empty next year.

interesting way that ESPN uses the phrase "New England" like we all know that's a real unified place or imagined community. all the domain of the Patriots i guess.

Even though it is 90 miles away from campus, the stadium allows UMass to reach many of the alumni living in the area. The school also got a good deal to play there: no rental fee and revenue sharing that is "beneficial" to UMass. It signed a five-year deal and will most likely play all its home games there the first two years of that contract while renovations are done to its stadium on campus.

That isn't computing for me. At Cal our stadium is basically a hole in the ground with a propped up historic outer wall, and our team is playing elsewhere for one year only. How can a remodel possibly take this long?

They are probabaly using the same contractors the state used to complete the Big Dig in Boston

They got to prove to the NCAA that they can do 15,000 or more fans per season and the nice thing is that they can see how many fans actually attend and then design their stadium to seat around that amount. UMass couldn't have asked for a better situation than what they are going into.

Our student seating is what 15k? That puts a huge dent in their numbers if UMass isn't going to be on campus. I'm sure they don't have 15K students, but students compromise a huge portion of a turnout.

People that live in Boston and want to go see a UMass game were already going. Changing the location doesn't change that, just makes it much more difficult for students to get to the game. Look at CU when we play CSU at Invesco and that's only 40 miles away from campus. It's not like a lot more alumni show up to the game.

Yea, that has to hurt student attendance in a big way when you're playing that far from campus, just look at the U. I'm sure that schools whose teams play off campus provide buses for the students but the idea of sitting on a bus for 45 minutes or more each way has to dissuade many students from going.

Part of the fun for students is the drinking. Sitting on a bus is a huge buzz kill and a lot of students wouldn't want to risk a MIP I'd imagine on said bus.
