I thought it would be good to have a thread about some of the all-time great Buffs who began their CU careers as walk ons.

I'll start it out with: QB Joel Klatt and WR Scotty McKnight

Every single Buff that has walked-on and stuck it out all 4 or 5 years through graduation. The most thankless job and hardest working athletes come from this group. My favorite is my long-time friend (and later in life brother-in-law), Barry Kunkel.

It was actually Dan Fouts that came up with that. Surprising it wasn't Jackson. And yes, Bavari Kunlei is still reminded of that by his former head coach and a few teammates when they run into each other I have noticed.

Bloom was schollied from Day One; his issue was whether he could get paid endorsements for his US Ski team prowess.

Wasn't Bloom a walk-on who later earned a schollie?

Bloom was the most jittery runner I ever saw. Ran like he was skiing a bump run. And uber fast.

I think he was always on scholarship, tho.
