Guys Peter Burns reached out to us to gauge our interest in doing a radio call-in show discussion and round table tomorrow morning from 7.30 on. He's had a very different take from Camp Embree and has been following the board as well as us on tiwtter looking to see what real fans are thinking instead of what talking points the former staff has come up with. He has offered up his show tomorrow as time toi call in, discuss set topics ad generally get a feel for what regular fans think.

He'd like to know ahead of time what level of interest we'd have in participating and if possible what subjects we could shoot over ahead of time.

sorry I guess I didn't know, so is he just asking for people to call in, or does he want some input before hand?

he wants to know if people are interested in calling in to discuss, and if possible he'd like to have a few set topics to discuss ahead of time. We talked about potentially covering:

- Effects on Mac's legacy
- Effects on B4L
- Their take on the coaching search
- Coaching search Rumors

But i think there are probably other topics we'd like to discuss.

Yes he is, although Kiz is a little more rational on the radio than in print.

He is. Actually it's the best morning sports show in my opinion (although I don't get a chance to listen much anymore). Since Vic and Gary were cancelled there just isn't much out there.

I think it would be a great idea for you guys to get someone on that show and set the record straight.

If you call, have some talking points thought out. Try to have a mature fact based approach as to why the firing was justified. Avoid bomb throwing. Do not stumble into some rabbit hole on the race issue. Just say race had nothing to do with it. Anyway, just my 2 cents.

Unfortunately I have court tomorrow morning, so I won't be able to listen or call in.

I do hope you take him up on it!! And I hope that it is recorded and offered online after the fact.

Maybe we can compile some comments and email it in to them Abs?

Maybe we can compile some comments and email it in to them Abs?

I was hoping to do that, I'll let him know some of us are interested and that we've got some other thoughts coming via email.

Can you guys help me out with the latter?

Only if our users can give us some concise, professional comments about everything that has gone down over the last 4 days.

Users?

I figured screw it. Let's do something out of the box. Just came across the board recently, and liked the discussion on both sides of it.

We've got Broncos KR, Trindon Holliday on the first part of the show, then I wanted to do the roundtable at 8:20. We will keep it for at least a segment, more if it generates solid discussion. Basically yield the floor to you guys and let you guys discuss it with our listeners

Basically, I want a good solid discussion on future of CU football/thoughts on Bohn/Embree/Mc....all of it.
I'll keep checking this thread on questions/points you want discussed. I'd like to have a few of you guys on air to air it out. Feel free to use either your real name or All Buffs username.

Looking forward to it.

Details:

My personal Twitter account is @PeterBurnsRadio, if you can get through via phone lines.

Sounds like a plan.

There is a blog post from the front page that calls for Buff fans to unite. I am not sure how a round table such as this would accomplish that. There are enough voices out there and maybe something positive would come out of this (besides an amazing bump in ratings for your show due to allbuff greatness) but I kind of doubt it.

We need a cooling off period. Not move voices on the radio.

Hey Peter -

I would really like it if you could address some of the falsehoods that are being put forth by Camp Embree. I'm not asking you to take sides, I'm asking you and Kiz to look at the facts:

- Recruiting was growing great: Fact -The current CU class is ranked #64 in the nation, and #11 in the Pac-12. Only one player had multiple BCS level offers, and the only other 2 BCS offers came from Iowa State and Duke

- Jon Embree and the coaches have to go and check on kids to make sure they're attending class. Fact- Bohn dispelled this on air, but Klatt didn't listen and still called him a liar. Allbuffs posters debunk Klatt's claims here: (I can't find the thread, it is buried somewhere, I will track it down later)

- CU had no integrity for letting Embree go before his contract was up: Fact - Most contracts at this level have specific buyout clauses that allow either party out of the contract. CU exercised this clause. If theme of the complaint is moreso that we renegged on a promises, then I would like to point out that this is a business and people move around. Embree and EB left CU in 2002 for lateral moves to UCLA, and in the process they took with them some prized recruits, such as Maurice Jones-Drew. Additionally, Coach Mac left with very little notice in the middle of his contract

What else Allbuffers?

Something I wouldn't mind hearing a discussion on is does the firing of Embree and the subsequent firestorm from Mac (and the local talking heads like Klatt) help to finally galvanize the administration into truly supporting the program to where success is more likely? Maybe this ugly divorce will turn out to be a blessing in disguise.

I'm hopeful that the heat that Bohn (and to a lesser degree, Benson and DiStephano) is taking is going to help change things in combination with the P12 TV money. I'd love to see the admin come out with a real facility plan, a real plan to build a donor culture, support for the coaches needs (tables, water, chairs, ...), maybe a discussion about entrance/transfer requirements and academic majors that peer institutions offer that CU does not, etc.

Basically, what's it gonna take for CU to get to a point where a HC candidate like Bellotti does NOT go on ESPN and say that he doesn't think it's possible to win at CU (paraphrased)

I would like to see, well hear, a discussion about what we would like to see in the new football coach. Stop looking back, let's look forward. In no particular order:

-Administrative ability - the HC is an administrator, yes they coach, but they need to oversee and delegate a thousand different things. The best coaches (Meyer, Saban, etc) are masters at this - people are often amazed at the level of detail those guys put into their programs.
-Football ability - I really want them to know the game at an X's & O's level. It's ok for them to not know "how to stop Oregon's offense" - pretty much no one has that figured out. But they should understand what it is exactly that Oregon does, and how they can throw some wrenches into the machine and slow it down.
-Recruiting ability (players) - the HC is a closer more than anything, can he seal the deal?
-Mentoring ability - has he developed coaches that work under him? Have they gone on to do good things? Coordinators can do this too, it's not just head coaches, there should be some evidence of developing the coaches that work under them whether they've been head coaches or coordinators.
-Recruiting ability (coaches) - have they shown an ability to hire good assistants, or even pick good GA's?

Some discussion about how various potential candidates stack up in these (or others, mine aren't necessarily the best) categories would make for good radio.

Maybe a discussion about what the administration can do in the future (again, let's turn the page) to support the football program. A General Studies major would be huge, and would carry academic benefits to students beyond just athletes. Some sort of Physical Ed / Nutrition / Health program - plunk it in the college of education - it REALLY hurts our program that very, very few high school coaches in the state went to CU to get their degree and/or teaching certificate. Facilities.

I would rather hear a discussion about what we can do in the future than more recriminations about the past, and I'm betting a lot of folks are at the same point as me.

All very good stuff from you guys. I like the idea of not focusing so much on the past, but rather the future direction.
It's easy to rip the past as hindsight is 20/20.

Like someone mentioned, perhaps it took something messy like this to understand all the small problems that added up to failure in the past.
Looking forward to it tomorrow either way.

My two cents on Macs race allegations is simple. If this was a white coach with no previous CU ties, he would be fired and everyone would look at the measureables and agree he was not getting it done. IMO, what sucked for CU was not the race issue, but having to fire on of our past CU heros. Only person bringing the race issue into this was Mac, both before the hiring, and after.

Simple to see..you show a.home the stats and not say a name or a race, and the stats tell you that the coach has failed in an epic manner.

According to the DP, Embree was on Sirius radio yesterday playing the race card. Saying if he had been white, he would not have been fired. Chris Fowler commented that there was zero chance that race had anything to do with it.
