Great name in Colorado hoops right now (Roberson, Iguodala, Miller).

But speaking of Mr. Roberson... since there is a chance he will leave after this tournament (knock on wood, please please please come back 'Dre... we love you!) how does he compare in the history of CU hoops? I believe he is a top 10 player for sure... and probably a top 5 player.

Chauncy, Meely, Burks, Higgins, Copeland (love him... but better NBA player than college player imo), Roby, Morandais, Pelle, Harrison (david), Harrison (dj), Bullard, Wedman, Humphries.
I am sure there is some I am missing (love me some Jaquay Walls, Blair Wilson, etc) but as far as I can see Roberson HAS to be top 5... if not top 2... just behind Mr Billups.
 
Roberson wouldn't be top 2. Burks, Donnie Boyce, and Roby would at least be ahead of him. Not old enough to speak of Humphries or Meeley, but I'd assume they'd be as well.

I'd take Walls over Copeland, Morandais, and DJ Harrison any day. Nothing against those 3, Walls was just that good.

Damn...Boyce... how did I forget him? Rep... good post.

But I don't think Roby would be ahead of 'Dre... everything else I can agree with.
 
Roby had the misfortune of playing at the end of Patton's tenure. If Roby plays under Boyle he'd have been gone after his soph season. Patton was that bad at the end.

Jamal Mosley is another possible name to remember on the original list.

Good call... not that these guys were great or anything but I thought I'd throw Jose Winston, Mookie Wright, Marcus Hall, Andy Osborne and (something) Obazuaye's names out there as solid Buffs whose game I always appreciated (since I am feeling all nostalgic and such).

Don't forget one of the last two-sport starters in Dave Logan or other local guys who had a taste of the NBA: Jim Creighton, Pat Frink or Chuck Williams (oddly, all with the '76'ers). And you can't overlook the original "proto-type point guard", Gordie Tope!

Tope was one of the first guards to regularly break out with the cross-over, behind-the-back, through-the-legs dribbling that we all take as commonplace today. Back then, in the late '60's, early '70's it was new and exciting.

In retrospect, Roby made a mistake by coming back as his stock was never higher than in the middle of his sophomore year but had fallen by the end of it. He went from a lottery pick to end of first round/second round to not drafted at all when he left after his senior year.

Andy Osborn? Really? I understand expanding the pool, but wow.

Jayson Obazuaye, btw. Neither belongs in this discussion.
 
20 years from now, as we banter thru our cyberoptic eyewear that magnetically transmits our thots to the electro-esp-webz, we'll be trying to convince a bunch of 20-something year olds how good 'Dre was.

Will we be able to convey how good he was on D? Or how he soared for rebounds? Will we be able to describe him posterizing k-cat Pullen?

I don't know. I think as time goes on 'Dre will move farther down the list of CU greats. Most will only see the numbers.
 
if andre shuts down their top scorer tomorrow and comes back , he may leave here number one...as i watch andre more and more my appreciation for his diversity in being able to guard their best player, be tough down low or outside, not many could do that. sure burks could score but i would not rather have burks than andre tomorrow

How has Birdie Halderson not been listed, but Andy Freaking Osbourne was? I obviously wasn't around when Birdie was playing, but seriously people.
 
Though andy was a personal favorite of mine while at school (Remember the socks? and that time he hung like 25 on Ok ST when they had james'on curry and the keg was chanting "daddy's a crackhead" at him?)......but I dont think he's the caliber of player that belongs on the list.
Also agree w what was said about roby. That kid had such a huge soph year and then just faded to black.....
 
Of the players I have seen, Stevie Wise, Donny Boyce Shaun Vandiver, Jay Humphries.

Roby made a big mistake returning to school when he did. I'd hate to be the person advising these kids.

No no no... I know that. I just felt the need to mention solid Buffs whose game I appreciated in my years watching Buffs hoops (mid 90's - present).

As far as greatest Buffs, Dre has to be top 5 though, no doubt imo.

I was at the NIT game where some made "one more year" signs. It's all retrospect, but I'm sure really regrets it. It's just amazing to me how far your stock can fall. If you had told me after Sophomore year, he'd stay two years and go undrafted, I wouldn't believe you. For selfish reasons, I want 'Dre back, but if this is his best shot -- go for it. You can only try to get rich once in many cases.

How weird is it that Copeland made it to the NBA and Roby didn't?
 
I'd love to have Dre back. We all would.

I think we're going to be cheering for him in NBA arenas from now on, though.

If (when) Dre leaves, we need to congratulate him and thank him for three great years. And idiotic would be waiting too long, to the point he doesn't get the opportunity to fulfill his dream. That's a very real risk for any kid coming back for their senior year.
 
He can get back to the first round IMO. He will never get back to lottery consideration, but unless someone guarantees they will take him in the. 1st, he shouldn't leave this year. I think he would thrive with the Spurs at the end of the first round FWIW. I imagine that would be a dream scenario for Andre as well.
