Andre Leaving?

I think he is referring to his Mono (illness). "Be back soon" could be back to the team for tourney or maybe (please) back to Keg- as in next year.

Missing the last home game because of illness. Nothing to do with leaving.

Could read it either way. He could mean last game of the year at Coors. He could mean last game ever.

I hope he means last game of the year. But if I had to put money either way, I would go the other way, unfortunately...

Don't expect Dre to be back next year. He gonna get paid.

Yep. Like what others have said already, I think the #ForeverBuff means he's jumping for the pros.

All it takes is one NBA team to tell him that they will take him if he is there and pay him a bunch of money and it's make the decision to come back very hard.

I hope he comes back and think it would be the best thing for him but if he can get a guaranteed contract for more money then most people make in a lifetime its hard to argue.

I'm pretty sure he's gone, but I'm actually OK with that. He'll get the opportunity to play pro ball, it's good for the program to put another kid into the NBA and Tad's been building the roster for this anyway. XJ, Gordon, Thomas and Fletcher all have the ability to help fill the void. At this point, we need to get used to early entries, because it looks like it may be a common occurence the next few years. Now, if the Mayor decides to leave this year too, I might change my story...

Anyway, assuming he is leaving, good luck Dre and thank you for all you've done the last 3 years! You've earned your place next to the all-time great Buffs!

So which team is taking him in the first round? That's the only way he's getting a GUARANTEED contract.

Honestly, I think we need to stop coming up with reasons to justify him coming back, which selfishly we all want. It's probably in Dre's best interest to go, and let's wish him well if/when he does.

I wish him well and I don't blame him for leaving if this is in his best interest. Just saying, he's only DEFINITELY getting paid if he's guaranteed first-rounder. Don't all the mocks having him going 2nd round?

Yeah, he's in the 2nd round in a lot of mocks now, but there's still plenty of time before the draft. And even on a 2nd round contract, he's the kind of a role player who should stick around the league a few years.

I guess I'm just bracing for the “Dre is making a mistake! He can win another PAC 12 championship if he stays" posts if he leaves.

Dre needs to do what Nik suggested Spencer do. Declare but don't hire and agent and see what grades he's getting and go from there.

I don't think this is an UF situation, where we can expect them to go to the Final Four, but yeah it be nice if he cameback b/c we'd have a good team coming back. Nonetheless, I don't blame him like I said if it's in his best interest and coming back could leave him more exposed.

Well I'm expecting the elite 8 either way

I'm not saying there is a team and have no idea which team it would be if there is one, that's why I used the word if. If he doesn't have a solid lock into the first round then it makes a lot less sense for him to go.

We also know that the media projections for the draft are not an exact science. Dre is an interesting player to evaluate as a pro. HIs offense is limited and he is undersized for the position he plays in college if you project it to the NBA. At the same if a team falls in love with his potential it would be very easy to see him going in the first round. Some GM may see him as an Andre Iguodala type who can shut people down at the wing positions (2,3, even small 4s) while providing some added rebounding and a guy who can and will get out and run.

I wouldn't be shocked if some team near the bottom of the first round decided that he could be a solid role player for them and a positive addition to the roster. For Andre this would be a good situation as well since he wouldn't be expected to score or carry a team, just contribute with his unique skill set. If one of those teams let him know that they were willing to draft him in the first if he were there it could be a hard opportunity to turn down.

PJ Tucker resurfaced in the NBA this season with Phoenix after several years playing overseas. But yeah, when Toronto drafted him several years ago they knew what skill set they were getting for a guy who played out of position as an undersized 4 in college because of his physical inside game. Dre may not see starter minutes for most or all of his professional career but how he plays the game adds value for some team needing that undersized but aggressive role player who will be all over the floor while the opposition is getting tired, fighting for rebounds.

I think the big advantage for Dre is that he can D up small forwards. He has been mostly defending bigger guys in college because CU didn't have anyone else to do it but when I have seen him defending guys closer to his size I have seen him just clamp down. He has very good feet, long active arms, is quick enough to stay with almost anyone he would face and we know that he doesn't have problems with contact. For a team that doesn't need him to score he could be a key role player.

Sounds kind of like an Andre Iguodala, only with an even less developed offensive game...

Haven't really followed this thread. If you are selected in the first round, isn't your contract slotted and guaranteed as opposed to the second round?

Not sure if there's any room for negotiation, but only first round contracts are guaranteed in the NBA. He'd have to make the team in the 2nd round.

I guess I'm not sure how SHT leaving and Dre going pro are related?

Has to do with scholarship spots. If Dre was coming back and Simba did not leave, we were 1 over I believe. Simba leaving opens up the number needed if I counted correctly
