It's one thing to pile up early commitments. Arizona State*has done*that. But the Sun Devils also are rolling up the quality talent that typically is featured in a top-25 recruiting class.
The latest --*ASU's 21st commitment -- is 6-foot-4, 270-pound offensive lineman Evan Goodman of Lakeland HS (Lakeland, Fla.),*a four-star prospect who*picked the Sun Devils over a host of A-list teams, including Auburn, Florida State, Miami, Florida, Georgia, Nebraska, Notre Dame, LSU and Ohio State.
His twin brother Devin, also*an offensive lineman,*is a member of the Sun Devils incoming,*2011 recruiting class.
The Sun Devils also got a commitment from Bullard HS (Fresno, Calif.) offensive lineman Stephon McCray, a 6-foot-2, 325 pounder who picked ASU over Colorado, Iowa State, Fresno State and Washington State.
Said ESPN's Craig Haubert:*"Arizona State has somewhat quietly put together a top 25 caliber class at this point. Currently sitting at No. 20, the Sun Devils just added a pair of four-star O-linemen. The bigger of the two gets comes out of Florida as the Sun Devils landed Goodman."
Haubert on Goodman:
"As a run blocker he fires off the ball low and hard with good initial quickness and explosion and is capable of knocking defenders off the ball. He is also very good in space as he plays well on his feet and is able to locate and get a hat on defenders on the move."
"As a pass protector he demonstrates the ability to be successful in this phase as he sets quickly and can bend and slide his feet. This we feel is a very good pick-up for ASU especially coming from outside their recruiting base."
Haubert on McCray:
"A bit of an underrated big man we feel, he will likely need to redistribute his body mass some and be careful how he adds size. As a run blocker though he is a tough customer who can maul defenders and help create running lanes and for his size he displays the balance and agility to play well on his feet in space. He may need a little more development time then Goodman, but this is a nice pick-up as well for Arizona State."
