I was perusing Georgia HC K.Smart's background.
Some interesting things pop up.
Was named Alabama Assistant Head Coach/DBs after a few years of jumping programs and even just a singular season safeties in NFL.
Georgia hired him to coach running backs after 5 years of coaching defense positions at four different programs.
And most interesting to me to see is that he won the Broyles Award for best assistant coach in the country in 2009 yet didn't "use that leverage" to become a head coach until about six years later. I would think any coach winning Broyles award will become a HC the next season or two.
