I was a little surprised when Wyoming announced the firing of Heath Schroyer last month. They had just extended him in 2009.

Now that we're renewing that rivalry series, we need to start paying some attention to them. CU is 34-39 all-time and we host them next season with home/away/home/away over the next 4 seasons.

They've got a pretty proud hoops history.

Any of you guys hearing who they might be hiring or targeting?

dunno. but, Fennis Dembo was a serious baller for WYO inna day.

Yes he was.

They should probably think about hiring McClain back. I really doubt they would, but firing him certainly didn't do them any good.

One of the local sports talk guys here is a former AD employee at Wyo, during the time McClain was there. Judging by his comments when CU was looking for a replacement for Bzz, there was absolutely no love lost for McClain in Laramie. None at all.

Correct. McClain had really worn out his welcome by the end.

Lowe out at NC State

this is old news, but I failed to see something that will effect us.

NC State is a quality school with money and support for their bball program, so they're going to go after a good name. Sean Miller was an assistant at State, and I think he has to be their top choice. They will come with money.

It's hard to predict though, because Miller recently took the UoA job. Arizona is a much better situation than State, but he does have NC State ties. His brother (assistant under him) played at State in addition to his coaching experience there.

If Miller stays in Tuscon, people on Duke boards have thrown out the names of Turgeon and Barnes. Barnes was at Clemson, so he knows the ACC. I'm not sure about Turgeon though...I don't think he has any connections. If Miller bolts, I think Arizona is going to go hard after Pastner at Memphis. If offered, Pastner will definitely bolt to take the Arizona job.

Pastner would most definitely take the Arizona job. Of the coaches mentioned in the OP, none seem like a mutual interest thing for NC State. Would be interested to see where that goes. Maybe they take a look at the other Pac-12 coach in Arizona, har har.

Yea, Miller's name continues to be floated around for the NC State job. A dark horse candidate recently who was mentioned is Tubby Smith.

their last hire was a "can't get the guy(s) we want", we'll get a former player from the good old days (Lowe). Herb Sendek left NCSU for at best a lateral move to ASU....don't see NCSU hiring anyone listed in this thread thus far. i think it's a job much diminished in prestige (and not better than U of A in the last 25 years)....and the reality is you are at best 3rd in North Carolina (with Wake in the dumper).

ACC fans always think Barnes is going to "come back to the ACC"....he was listed in the Wake opening last year. don't see why he'd leave Texas....tons of talent, national recruiting budget, to be #3 in the state? play your regional in OK or Texas every year if you are a top seed. UNC and Duke have that "pod" locked up pretty much every year.

by the way, i'm hoping Embree isn't our Sidney Lowe, as it were. I'm cautiously optimistic, but we all are this time of year (as proven by 4 of the last 5 years and 2-3 of which we should have known better).

Tubby is a great name, and in my opinion, one of the most undervalued coaches ever. He got treated like **** by Kentucky fans in my opinion. I don't think State will hire Smith though, because he is getting up there in years. I think they want to build with their next coach.

And I do think they will go after Miller hard. I have no idea if he leaves Tuscon, but there's internet rumors, which are very trustworthy right?, that state Miller's wife does not like Tuscon. I wouldn't leave if I were Miller, but I wouldn't be surprised if Pastner is the coach at UoA next season.

Shaka Smart is being rumored as a lead candidate as well.

I agree on Barnes. I'm still not convinced on his coaching abilities yet, so I'm always a little confused why every time there's an ACC opening, people think of Rick leaving Austin. Austin is a solid job to have.

Mike Anderson to Arkansas

according to a buddy in Columbia, says it's on the TV. Presser in Fayetteville on Thursday.

kinda in our rear view, but interesting.

i thought he'd stay at MU, to be honest. but, I guess Arkansas has had enough of scuffling in revenue sports with the success of Petrino and the lackluster Stan Heath/Pelphrey years....and decided it was time to pony up the Wal-Mart money.

Not surprising with his ties to Arkansas, but it's a big blow for Mizzou as he had saved the Tigers from a bad situation left by Quinn Snyder.

I had to keep reminding myself that what Mizzou does with their coach no longer concerns CU. Same with Gillespie and Tech.

I get this. At UAB, Anderson was the Calipari-killer in the conference. That's the target in the SEC now with Kentucky. Throw in the ties to the program's national championship and his good success at Missouri. Anderson had to be Arky's #1 target. I think this is a good fit.

In related news, Missouri's governor has issued a statement that Anderson was terrified of how good the Big Tex was going to be now that the dead weight of Colorado and Nebraska was cut loose. :wink2:

No-brainer with his history there, plus being one of the biggest names that wasn't a lock to stay put. And past Kentucky and Florida the SEC is wide open in basketball so I think we'll see plenty more tourney appearances for Anderson.

If only now he could get Squeaky Johnson on staff.
