Billy Donovan has left Florida for OKC Thunder

Presti´s flying solo on this and hasn´t consulted with KD, Westbrook or Ibaka. With KD becoming a FA in 2016 and Westbrook in 2017, I think that´s interesting.

Florida could be in trouble. Bit of a difference between how Foley views that job vs the rest of America.

Greg Marshall or Little Miller. If I was Foley I would be mad about the timing because you know Shaka Smart would have loved to come back and take over for Donovan.

I think you're overvaluing the Florida job as well. No way in hell if I was Shaka that I would take Florida over Texas. If they're lucky they'll get Miller.

I think you would be surprised. Good facilities and a top notch AD with the basketball program in good shape (even with the bad year last year they still have talent coming in).

I've heard the exact opposite on facilities.

Yup you are right. About to put $60 million into them though.

Haven't they been "about to put $60 million into them" for over a year now though? Dont' get me wrong, if they do it, yeah, they jump up the list quickly. But Foley doesn't have the best reputation on this stuff.

Goose is right, Foley's the biggest dick in the nation as an AD. No coach really likes him.

Foley consistently brings in big coaches so obviously some like him and want to work with him. I'm not sure about his reputation as facilities go but it took them less than 5 months from taking bids on an ipf to get it started. I always heard his reputation was whatever u need to win I will give you. Their bball facilities were updats in 2007 so it's not like they have been ignored..

He brings in big time coaches because he has big-time money.

Foley has the biggest ego in gainesville.

This has been coming for awhile. If it wasn't OKC, it would've been someone. I'm hearing the Bulls might have an opening next year, think it's a bad idea too, I like their coach.

That's the "official" spin. Doubt it is what actually happened.

Brooks would not have been fired if Durant & Westbrook weren't on board with that decision.

Rumor was he was tired of losing recruiting battles with Kentucky.

Wouldn't surprise me.

Donovan was Florida baskeball. It's a football school. Removing Donovan from the equation, UF is no more of an elite hoops destination for a recruit than Georgia or Tennessee. He went above and beyond what the ceiling should have been for him there.

Would like to see Florida hire Larry Eustachy. Way too good a coach to be stuck in the MWC/WAC.

*for OKC's loyal fans. I hope he walks out on Clay Bennett tho. Hands down one of the worst owners in sports.

I hate all Seattle sports, but in this case am a SuperSonics fan. Seattle got straight up ****ed by that asshole.

Agreed on that as well.

The Thunder became a championship contender the exact way you have to as anything but a big market team in the NBA. Not only did they get incredibly lucky in being able to draft elite talent year after year, but they also landed picks in the right spots so they didn't have to take guys like Oden or Beasley, even though they absolutely would have had they picked one or two spots sooner. For at least one year, they could have fielded a roster of Tyson Chandler, Serge Ibaka, Kevin Durant, James Harden, and Russell Westbrook with Jeff Green coming off the bench. That's a dynasty right there but their cheap owner decided that being a fake contender was better if it meant not having to shell out $$$. I really do feel for the fans, but I want Durant and Westbrook to both walk out on that franchise.

So they hire Sparkles And Eustachy the same year?

yes, that would be hilarious.

Holy crap. I wasn't even thinking about that. That would be funny. Maybe a little rough, but funny.

Holy crap man. How many max contracts do you want OKC to give out???

The Thunder is not located in LA. They cannot afford the luxury tax penalty like large market teams can. It would be one thing to be a couple million over the cap but that team you described would have pushed OKC into the higher penalty repeat offender status.

For 2014/2015 alone -
Durant counted @$19 million
Westbrook was @$16 million
Harden got @$15 million
Ibaka was @$12 million

That's $62 million of a $63 million cap on 4 players. The tax penalty begins at @$77 million. So if the Thunder had only signed Harden they would have $14 million in pre-penalty space for eleven (11) players! How much do you think Jeff Green and Tyson Chandler would play for?

The Thunder don't have a huge media contact to line their pockets. The Thunder were 7th in the west in revenue for last season.

This year, with a new CBA on the horizon, the Thunder have gone after players aggressively. Picking up Enes Kanter and Anthony Morrow is going to push OKC over the luxury tax, and if they resign Durant next season they will go even farther into the tax. Luckily the new CBA will push the numbers up in 2017.

Well the Chandler and Green part was back in 09, when they were paying Harden, Westbrook, and Durant a combined 13m. I wouldn't have expected them to keep Chandler and Green. However, Cap space doesn't matter for contenders, they sign players with different exception contracts, which they'd have no problem finding ring chasing vets with a core of Harden, Westbrook, Durant, and Ibaka. I also don't think you need all that much after those 4. Look how much guys like Perkins, Collison, Morrow, and Waiters make to do absolutely nothing on that team (or when they were on that team).

Bennett bought the team for $350m and Forbes values it at $930m, which really means the franchise is worth somewhere around $1.5b. The Thunder have/had whatever money they needed to pay for the luxury tax. They likely would have made up the difference in the extra 3-6 home games they would have gotten by not getting bounced in the semis or earlier like they're stuck with now.
