Bio/Experience

Bob Stitt returns for his ninth season as the head football coach at Colorado School of Mines in 2008.
During his first eight years, Stitt has guided the Orediggers to a 51-39 overall record, including a 36-29 mark in the RMAC. Stitt’s .567 winning percentage is the highest by a Mines football coach who has coached in at least 20 games and the highest for a modern day coach at CSM.

Mines compiled a 6-2 mark in the RMAC (7-5 overall) and earned a berth in one of just two sanctioned NCAA Division II bowl games - the Dixie Rotary Bowl - in 2007. With their 7-5 overall record in 2007, the Orediggers secured their sixth winning season in the past seven years. The 2007 Dixie Rotary Bowl marked the second time in four years that the Colorado School of Mines football team had advanced into the post-season, and the third time in program history that the Orediggers had played in a post-season bowl game. CSM landed 14 All-RMAC selections and two All-Region picks in 2007 while six players earned recognition on the NFF's All-Colorado Teams. Furthermore, Derek Dykstra was selected to participate in the Valero Cactus Bowl (NCAA Division II football all-star game).

Questions
Division two head coach- Big Leap between DII and a BCS Coaching
Not a Big name. Would he energize the fan base?

Strengths
Offensive Genius
Big name programs also interested as OC

I'll pass on him too but he should warrant a look as the OC for the Buffs. He should be getting looks after that USA Today article about him came out.

Knowing how guys like Chip Kelly and Jim Tressel worked out after cutting their teeth in the lower divisions, would be an interesting hire. Would feel better about him being our OC first though.

I don't think Stitt himself expects to be hired as anything more than an OC. no way he's our HC.

Yeah, Stitt wouldn't command the $2-2.5 million salary that's being thrown out there right now either. Would love to see him as OC though.

I really enjoy that one of his strengths is 'Offensive Genius'

Can someone provide some insight to me on what he does that is so amazing?

Word flying around tonight is that he has opportunities elsewhere, but that CU would be in the driver's seat to land him as our OC. Supposedly, programs including Clemson, Houston and NC State want him to take over their offense.

All I know is he managed to win with players probably just slightly more athletic than your average allbuffs poster.

One interesting thing about Stitt as a possible coordinator is how he has shaped the roster at Mines, almost entirely Colorado and Texas kids. 58 players from Colorado and 32 from Texas.

Dude was 6-5 this year or something in the RMAC. Pass.

He has a $5k recruiting budget, and can offer his players ONE major. You sure about that?

Kevin Sumlin spent 10 days studying under him and Dana Holgorsen has given him props. He will be an impactful offensive mind for years to come. I like him as OC. He would be a HUGE asset recruiting Colorado.

Regarding Mines, there isn't 1 major, but it is all engineering, hard sciences (physics, chemistry, geology), and math. They also offer economics. When I came out of high school, I had contact with Mines for football, but I wanted my major over playing football (Mines doesn't have aerospace). Besides, they were really bad back then. As far as entrance requirements, they are the same as for CU's engineering school. So it is difficult to find quality players that can handle the academics. I am amazed at what he has done since taking that program over.

I was really impressed with what Reed Marks said about him on Buffchips last night. Stitt sounds like a Tad Boyle to me. He is self-aware enough to know he isn't ready to be a HC. He wants to be the OC at Colorado. He wants the freedom to run his offense. He tacitly implied that he could recruit the hell out of Colorado.

What I really like is that if we get a coach who brings on Stitt as the OC. Let's say that coach has some success, and moves on to another job. Stitt will have gathered the experience necessary to step into the HC role at Colorado.

Reed did say that CU brought him up to the bball game, but isn't offering him the OC or HC position. That is the new HC's decision. However, Stitt has been actively going out, on his own accord, and contacting the folks who look like potential candidates to let them know he is interested.

Finally, Reed said that if Stitt doesn't come to CU this season, then he is likely to find himself as the OC at a Top 15 program next year. Stitt has already had those overtures in the past, but he wants to stay in Colorado.

I hope that whomever we hire gives him a good look.

Players from all over the state. Obviously a different animal recruiting to CU versus Mines, but would not be bad to have a guy with extensive ties to local high schools.

I don't think he would accept that. Reed made it sound like he's getting OC offers from big, big schools. Apparently the job was offered to him ahead of Kiesau when Hawk was here, but Stitt turned it down because he wanted full control of the offense (Hawk was a meddler)

Must spread rep. Thank you for the information. I would imagine any good HC candidate is going to at least give Stitt serious consideration assuming your information is true.

As an offensive coordinator I think he meant.

He has to know that if he wants to play with the big dogs, he will have to go be a OC somewhere first....and if there is a offer to be a OC at a BCS school, he should take if. That is IF he wants to be a BCS HC. Have to take all the learning steps to make it to the bigs. Unless you are Jon Embree.

I hope we get a DC background HC, and his OC stays to run the program so he has to look at other OC coaches. Stitt would be awesome for CU.
