DiStefano said the Board of Regents will review the extension and vote on it at its next meeting later this month in Colorado Springs or at another meeting later this summer.

He said the terms of the contract would not be drastically different from Bohn's current deal, but it would add another 21/2 years on the back end, keeping Bohn under contract in Boulder until spring or summer of 2016.

hrmmm - mixed feelings here. Bohn has done some really really good things - but we haven't yet seen any success on the field(s), although BBall had their nice showing last season.

I've been a big supporter of Mike and everything (besides the hiring, and delay of firing) that he has done, but this is stupid. I'm not happy.

I'm good with this. I'm a big supporter of Mike Bohn. While I think he's made a couple mistakes, on balance I think he's done a very good job. The only two mistakes I can see are the CSU extension and not firing Hawkins about ten seconds after the 2009 season ended. I'll give him some benefit of the doubt in the Hawkins deal, as I believe if it had been up to him, Hawkins would have been fired long before he was. The CSU extension is fine, but having the games at Invesco is a collossal epic failure. I predict that by the end of this contract, that stadium will be half empty or worse. CSU fans already are avoiding the game, and CU fans aren't far behind. The venue sucks. Still, I think he's earned this extension.

Here's the attendance numbers from the last few games....ouch.

Mile High Staduim Capacity: 76,273
Attendance for games there:
1998 - 76,036*
1999 - 73,438*
2000 - 67,466

Invesco Capacity: 76,125
Attendance for games there:
2001: 75,022
2002: 75,531
2003: 76,219*
2006: 65,701
2007: 68,133
2008: 69,619*
2010: 60,989

* = night games according to the CU website which I think are games that start after 5:00 local

Bohn learns from his mistakes. I like that in a leader. hopefully he's over the worst of that learning curve though. Not sure why we extended him, don't see the need.

Some of those numbers are extremely generous. I bet Plati has something to do with those numbers. :smile2:

I'd like to retract this statement. I thought it read 'Boyle Extended' for some reason. I'm fine with Bohn's extension. He's done lots right during his tenure. I'm not worried about him turning into a moron.

The only reason to extend him, is if they thought it was a serious threat that he would take another AD job in the next yearish, because I think it would be horrible for him to not be here. However, I still don't think he has earned an extension at this point and also don't think there is a serious threat of him leaving within the next year. The same principle applies to him not deserving an extension and not being a threat to leave for better opportunity. He hasn't earned either yet.

 Yeah there wasn't that many fans last year....I hate Invesco with a passion for games, not to mention all the people drinking their first beers and getting sick in the first quarter.

I don't mean to bag on Bohn, he's done a good job cleaning up the mess left for him by Tharp. I just feel we need to take the next step, and I don't think he can do it. There are better options out there. No reason to limit ourselves.

just a couple?

Yes, just a couple. If you look at where this department is today in comparison to where it was the day he took over, it's unbelievably better. Nobody is ever 100% perfect at his/her job, but I really can't fault Bohn too much. Aside from all the stuff that gets publicity like the facilites and ticket sales, Mike Bohn is a tireless promoter. The guy is EVERYWHERE. He's always on. Always talking up CU athletics. Always looking for ways to make it better. I have a hard time faulting him too much for his mistakes.

Rugged brought up a good point, which is that we'd be truly f**ked without him running the ship for the next couple years. By adding years to his contract and putting in additional incentives, I think this was a terrific move by the school. It sends a message that we're a stable, growing department.

Kudos to CU.:congrats:

There's no where to go but up. How could things have possibly gotten any worse?

Perhaps things couldn't have gotten worse, but there was no guarantee they'd get any better, either. Bohn still has a lot of work to do and he has made some mistakes along the way. On balance, though, I can't find much fault in what he's done. I'm good with the extension.

And the dude posed for a picture with the allbuffs crew at a tailgate last year. That gets him style points in my book.

I just want to know where he got those sweet sweet threads. Maybe West Lafayette? By Centaurus?

My understanding is that Mike Bohn was instrumental in our landing in the Pac-12. That, alone, makes him worthy of an extension. We are in MUCH better shape now, than when he took over.

I really think we would've ended up in the Pac12 regardless of who was the AD. Even if Creatini was the AD, we would've still ended up in the pac. :smile2:

Just kidding Creatini.

Everyone knows I have been critical of Mike, but I like this move, it insures the new staff gets a long leash. Bohn wont get the opportunity to hire another HC regardless of how many years are on his contract.
