Boise State hires Harsin

ESPN reporting.

Risky move as he comes in from the outside.
Was OC under Peterson and very successful.
Was a failure at Texas as OC (without Peterson).
Did nothing in one year at Arkansas State as Head Coach.

Boise State gets it wrong, they will fade quickly. Very risky move in my opinion.

I wouldn't hold his struggles as Co-Offensive Coordinator at Texas against him. That coaching staff and program was in complete disarray the years he was there. I think it's as good of hire as they were likely to make.

I would be very happy to see Boise State's program bottom out...we have too many recruiting battles with them right now...1 less to worry about

**** Boise.

They were cute once, now they're annoying.

If I never see that ridiculous blue turf again, I'll be happy.

He doesn't come directly from the inside, but I don't see this as an "outside" choice. Must be annoying for the Arkansas State program to have to do a yearly search for a new football coach.

It reads like a Haiku until the last line. You must be doing it wrong.

What I meant is that a lot of Peterson's guys are going to go with him. Harsin abandoned ship for the Texas job, and he's going to have to bring in a whole new staff, probably some Ark St guys.

I'd be really worried that he did not get any production out of the Texas offense, after going out on his own from underneath Peterson, who we KNOW is an offensive guru. This reminds me of the DII hire. Boise State is in trouble. Actually, I said they were in trouble earlier this year when they seemed to have lost some magic, so I'm not sure Peterson's genius is still all that relevant. Good for CU on both counts.

The guys on the local station believe he still has ties in Boise that makes them think he is a long term solution.
I can't possibly imagine how my post elicited that response.

I don't really care much either way - I would have been a bit concerned if Boise St had gotten a quality FCS coach, like the guy from ND State. Picking a retread with a questionable recent resume works for me.

Mack Brown had the UT offense under his thumb, irrespective of coordinators and really f'ed up his staff---not Harsin's fault by any means. Harsin got at least a cool $1.7 mill for his efforts as an asst. there. Then he took over the typical "one and done"-coached, Arky St. bunch, finishing 7-5, with two of his losses to Auburn amd Mizzou---nothing to be ashamed of.

Actually sounds like a very smart move for BSU: Hugely successful as BSU OC (Petey's team faltered when he left); HC experience; he doesn't bring in a new culture; many of the kids on the team know him and he's still well-liked in town. S-M-R-T!

This is not in any way surprising no matter who they hired. Boise is a one team town. Boise State is the sports scene there.

It is kind of like Nebraska. The media knows what the fans want to hear and gives it to them. The fans think with their hearts, not with their brains, and hear what they want to believe with little to no conflicting information or opinion allowed.

In huskerland anything less than competing for a NC when coming off the spring game is a dissapointment. In Boise they see no reason why they can't continue to dominate their schedule.

Thinking about it they could drop a lot and still win a lot of games. As long as they still schedule Idaho each year OOC and play the same cast of MWC creampuffs like UNM, UNLV, SDSU, CSU, Wyo, AFA, etc. they should be able to win at least 8 in a bad year.

I guess Chris Wilcox turned BSU down.

EDIT: This was going to be a risky hire unless it was Nick Saban or Bob Stoops taking over. Harsin is being asked to replace Petersen.
