Sorry if posted elsewhere--Kerry Murdock (sp??) OU's rivals guy and complete jerk mentioned Boyle as a potential candidate for the OU mbb vacancy. "CU may be winning and he may be a Colorado guy, but, c'mon, its Colorado basketball". Ehhhh, its OU basketball. he does say OU AD willing to drip $2 million though.

Thoughts?

Won't Happen.

CU is on its way up. They have a strong foundation in place. The facilities and culture are improving significantly. The fans love him. He likes it here. His family likes it here. He is a Colorado guy. And OU sucks. They are just now starting a total rebuilding project and they are going to be stuck in the Big Tex. Boyle is on his way to the Pac 12. He is looking forward to taking this team back to a level they have never been at. You can just tell in how he acts with the team, and how much he appreciates the fans. He is happy here. It would take a much bigger fish than Oklahoma to come to take him away.

I don't think he would even consider taking it. But probably more importantly, I doubt he would be OU's choice. They're much more likely to want to make a big splash, and as great a job as Tad did this year he is still just one year removed from being HC at Northern Colorado.

They only paid Capel $1.5 million, and frankly he had a better resume than Tad Boyle at this point in his career.

If they are going to pay $2 mil, I doubt it will be for Boyle.

I don't think Tad would go to Oklahoma if they gave him $4 million a year. NO chance.

Maybe they're not only looking at CU's improvement this year but also that UNC won the Big Sky with a team he built.

I'm not surprised to hear other schools sniffing around, seeing as how Tad has improved, in one place (UNC) significantly, two programs in 5 years. Anytime someone offers you $2mil/year you have to at least think about it, but I don't think Tad's leaving for a 2nd tier Big XII school.

Remember his boss, Mike Bohn, is a college buddy who specifically sought him out to drag the program, kicking and screaming, into national respectability. He's got institutional support, he's in his home region, and CU is putting the finishing touches on an impressive new practice facility. If Tad leaves after only 1 year to a school not named "Kansas", I will eat my hat (and post pictures).

I still think Tad's gone if a significantly bigger school comes calling in future years, but he isn't leaving for only a minor step up, certainly not after only one season. This guy is just window shopping for OU's AD.

OU should probably look at guys like Phil Jackson or Greg Popovich. As we all know, nobody in their right mind would choose the pros over OU....

Back to a level they have never been at? Works for me. In all honesty, he may position it for a raise if there is interest.

I think it's jealousy on the part of the OU folks. They can't imagine how a guy could turn around a program like CU.

Boyle ain't leaving. At least not for the likes of Oklahoma. Kansas maybe. Oklahoma? puh-lease.

**** this guy

but c'mon its oklahoma! quite possibly the sh**tiest state in the union. (and yes I have been to Nebraska)

It's on us as donors and fans to make sure CU hangs onto Boyle. Given a competitive compensation package and great fan support, I don't think he'd mind spending the rest of his career here.

Assuming we can keep him, talk of nationally respected programs being interested in him only helps us.

Tad truly does love Colorado, he also gave his word to this group of players and he is a man of his word.

Is there a situation that he would leave CU for? It would have to be a job at a big budget, traditional power, with the right circumstances like a Kansas. He isn't going to get an offer from one of those schools until he he has a stronger track record at Colorado.

Either way we come out ahead, Tad stays at the head of our program and we have better years ahead or Tad leaves because we have already had significant success and are established as a quality winning program.

OU, despite a bigger salary, does not meet the criteria to lure Tad away as long as CU gives him the support he needs to keep building the program.

Then we go to his house with pitchforks

I've commented/posted various things from the local press since Capel was axed. A couple of things to help put this all in perspective:

1. The morning sports radio show has the "OU practice report, with Kerry Murdock who takes off the rose colored glasses". No **** -- they actually intro it that way (every Mon/Weds/Fri morning).

2. Talk of Boyle as a possible candidate started the afternoon Capel was fired, on the radio. One hack ran something about him the next morning, and more were saying the same the following day. This is not new speculation.

3. The boomer faithful really do think they're with the elite/upper echelon of college BB programs. They were good under Tubbs and Sampson, but fell short of expectations on multiple occasions. To give you an idea of how much the local hacks think of the program/opening, I give you:

a. They rated the OU opening as 2nd most desireable of all the current college BB coaching vacancies (right behind Arky, above NC State, G-Tech, and Providence).

b. One hack speculated that the boomers would pursue John Thompson III (current coach of Georgetown). Another common "target" name is Buzz Williams of Marquette.

I don't know about you, but if I was coaching a big least BB team, I would definitely feel like I had reached the top of college coaching (even above Dook, gheysquawk-ville, and fUCLA).

just my 2-cents worth........

OU is a much better program than most of you are giving them credit. they have round of 8's under their last 3 coaches (and 2 Final Fours). they are a top 25 type program since Reagan was POTUS.

HOWEVER, Tad ain't leaving CU for OU. i was reading an OU board this AM and i don't see Tad's name anywhere. Buzz Williams, Pastner, and former OU player Terry Evans seem to be the names.

I don't buy Pastner going. Much easier to recruit and win at Memphis. You have talent in your backyard and lower admission standards. 2 million a year would be matched easily. I don't think a second year coach would get that big of a salary though.

Wait. Wut?

Did you say there's a school with lower admission standards than OU?
