I know there's a lot of negativity toward the idea of hiring a former CU player to the HC role, but figured a list of Buffs with current coaching positions might stimulate some thoughts for position coaches, coordinators or even for HC. I'm going to leave off former CU coaches who didn't play here since that list is too long for me to research, but feel free to add posts about those guys.

I'll update this OP as people post additions in this thread.

Of this list for a possible HC, I only really like the idea of EB and Ryan Walters. I’m unconvinced that EB will come back after the last two situations.

Walters I think is someone who can really offer a tremendous upside. If he is hired, gets the OC hire correct, and is given reign to clean house/rebuild recruiting operations, I think he could revitalize the program quickly. He’s played and won in big boy land.

I think adding HS HCs is viable. There have been a lot of good college assistants who were hired from the HS ranks to college staffs (even some who made it to college HC). If you can coach, you can coach. And a lot of times HS coaches give you a recruiting boost.

Agreed and outside of the coaching search context, it’s a fun idea to have a running list of where former Buffs are coaching at.
 
I actually like Ryan Walters a lot. If we go with a P5 DC who's done it on his own at the P5 level, is young and.... I think being a Colorado native and CU alum means he won't Midnight Mel you if he's successful here. BUT......

You can't just fall in love with NOT being left at the alter and then hire someone who's almost certainly NOT to be successful. (read Karl Dorrell)

Ryan Walters looks good on paper. It does seem like he could be a HC soon. He's a definite rising star.
An interview and more digging might convince me he's ready now and a home run. But without the benefit of that....
Seems too risky for us right now.
Feel CU must land someone who can absolutely, make us respectable.... and if he moves on, using us as a stepping stone, ok.
Maybe then Ryan Walters is our guy?
