Buffs fought hard

In years past Buffs would have folded like a tent. Kudos to defense for keeping them in the game. Those 4 turnovers could have been 28 more points.

I liked the fact that the Buffs fought to the end. Offense seemed to get better as game entered 4th.

Buffs were simply out depthed by a team who managed to put it all together in the last couple of weeks.

At this point CU is still in drivers seat if the can win a few more.

Yeah. One of those days the team just didn't have it, but found a way to give itself a chance. Need to get back on script next week.
 
This game was proof of MacIntyre's mantra: "Players make plays, players win games"

Both teams had great individual and team efforts. Dissapointingly SC had few more positive plays. CU proved today home or away this team has the grit to take one on the chin and fight back. Props to the defense; they showed amazing resolve after that fluky touchdown.
 
Tale of 2 halves. They won the first, we won the last but it wasn't enough. Valiant effort but we were out talented.

Hats off to the D. 4 takeaways and near 2nd half shutout.

We're still #1 in the South and will rebound against ASU. I think the kids will be pissed and lay 50 on the Toddster.

Go Buffs!
 
For a tough loss I am still very happy and proud of this team. Everything posted in this thread is spot on. Seeing the team as the clock hit zero gave me even more confidence. No heads were down, they were pissed they let that game get away from them. There was still a quiet confidence and maybe a loss we needed. This team means business and if I'm ASU, I am crapping my pants. This team will be out for blood next week at home. We still control our destiny and the future is bright!!

The controlling their own destiny thing is very important to note. SC already had two conference losses. The Buffs have one now. They have the rest of the South left to play, and everyone else in the South had a conference loss entering this week. The Buffs are still in control of their own fate.

No pass rush even when they brought 5 or 6. That was a killer. USC was able to run slow developing TE drags even when CU blitzed. No secondary can hold up to that.

Yeah. And that goes back to the battle of the trenches. We were manhandled. No pressure on the QB at all other than the one blitz that caused the fumble.

Like you mention in a previous post though, I put a huge amount of that down to the trenches. That was my big disappointment, though we all know what SC is able to recruit (and while their HC might be mediocre, not everyone on that staff is. Pendergast and SC's D had us figured out from the get-go)
 
I thought ju ju won the game for them. What a performance from our defense though. Montez learned from this that's pretty much all I took from it.

Yep. The issue with the pass D was almost zero pass rush.
 
Buffs didn't play well much of the game and still had a shot late against a team with a lot of talented playmakers.

Losing sucks, we had our chances to win this one. Had Spoon held onto the INT we would likely have left a winner. Not putting it on him though because there are probably 20 other guys who will be able to look at film on Monday and say if they had made that tackle, made that block, made the read and gotten to the play one step earlier, etc. that we could have won.

Despite all that losing this way sucks much less than seeing our kids out there giving it everything they have and being swamped by 40 before halftime. We still have to learn how to win but at least we now have the reason to think we can.
 
If you look up and down the roster, USC has NFL talent galore. We have a few guys who might have it.

I kind of look at this game as similar to the CU/OU game in 86 (?), where CU had managed to catch up to the rest of the Big 8, but OU was a different story. We are catching up to most of the conference, but it's going to take time to get the horses to catch up to SC.

Having said that, we have a hell of a team with a hell of a lot of heart. SC won on talent alone. (And a little help from the zebras.) We kept it close on heart.

Got into the backfield lots. Darnold was just too fast and elusive. He made our pass rushers look slow. To me this comes down to the well known speed deficiencies of our LBs
