Buffs last in Pac-12 Power Rankings (but gap is narrow)

Colorado Buffaloes
Record: 2-4 overall, 0-3 conference
Previous ranking: 11
There are two teams whose rankings are not up for debate: Arizona at No. 1 and Colorado at No. 12. The rest is an absolute crapshoot that can be debated in circles until next week's slate of games undoubtedly shakes things up again. However, while Colorado is the clear choice at No. 12 because of its 0-3 conference record and underwhelming wins against Massachusetts and Hawaii, the gap is narrow. The Buffs fell in double overtime last week against Cal and came up just short against Oregon State on Saturday. If Colorado played Arizona this week (instead of Nov. 8), would a Wildcats victory be a guarantee? Nope. Far from it. That's the Pac-12 this year.

In my own poll..... Anybody in PAC 12 who plays us is now paying attention. They probably think they will win, and they may, but the conference knows on a given day or night, Buffs no longer the chalk win. Next step for staff and team, win.

I think this is good. If teams consider is 12/12 then they are not noticing our improvement from week to week.

We are going to upset a good team this year. USC? UCLA?

and no way Utah beats us at Folsom this year.

Love the optimism, but are you aware that Utah just went on the road and beat UCLA? Utah may be the best team in the South this year.

Everybody in the conference is getting better. We're narrowing the gap, but it's not like the other teams are standing still. We have to get better at a faster rate than the rest of the conference. Very, very difficult thing to do.

I do see a glimmer of hope for next year, though. No Mannion or Mariota. Hundley may or may not go to the NFL ( I would if I were him), and we'll be returning a two year starter with loads of experience on offense. Next year is shaping up to be the breakout.

Need another win or two to lock up a couple impact recruits and 2015 will be shaping up to be a big year for the buffs.

The rebuilding process is so frustrating. We could so easily be 4-2 right now and predicting a bowl location right now...

The maddening thing is how close we are to 6-0. The CSU game was in hand and we pissed down our leg. That's the worst game we've played all year.

Ya. I will give CSU that one though. They wanted it more than we did and it was obvious. Still a couple plays or calls go our way... 5-1... granted the ASU game was a really really bad 1st qtr.

My favorite Buffs' stat right now, Sefo in the red zone... Inside the opponent's 20 yard line, he has completed 18 of 20 passes for 140 yards and 11 touchdowns with no interceptions.

Utah beating UCLA says more about UCLA than Utah IMO. Utah surprised UCLA with their backup QB, but if Utah wants to have any success they can't have a 2006 CU level passing game, and that's basically what Utah had on Saturday. UCLA had been flirting with disaster all season, it was bound to catch up to them. Their offensive gameplan with Hundley injured is terrible.

Utah beating UCLA was all about Brett Hundley having the pocket presence of a concussed newt. He wilted under any pressure.

It's been 3 years of this now. I'm very surprised that Mora hasn't done something on offense with quick passes to keep the defense off balance more. CU's had similar OL issues and gives up very few sacks because of intelligent scheme. UCLA's got horrible scheme and all-world players.

Yup. lots and lots of deep drops. You knew what was coming.

In his defense, that has to be the worst OL in the PAC12. Some is certainly his fault...holding on too long, not running sooner...but they are beyond awful on the line. My guess is coaching since I can't imagine they don't get decent talent at that position.

Which really makes you question running the ball 4 straight times on first and goal...

But you've got to be able to get that damn yard if they're ever going to be the team we want them to be. I'm torn. On the one hand, I don't believe that running the ball between the tackles gives us the best chance at success right now. On the other hand, I believe that developing the identity of confidence that we're going to get that ****ing yard between the tackles is essential to become a good team.

Also the highest paid Oline coach in the Pac. And pretty sure the country.

So I've got an idea; from now on, we'll run the same play - jones/Lindsay up the middle 4 plays in a row. They way Sefo will be assured of not throwing any interceptions.

As far as the Utah win......well it came the week after they lost to Wazzu at home. I think the one thing you can say about this league right now is there probably isn't a playoff caliber team in it. As far as the North, I still think Oregon is the best team.....that win over Michigan State still stands out as the best performance by somebody I've watched this year. The south is a total cluster****. If I had to pick a favorite to win the division right now, I'm going with ASU. Arizona has nothing other than the win at Autzen. Other than that night, they've looked like a seven win team. USC's lack of depth is going to be an issue for them the rest of the year. UCLA and Utah are so all over the map that nobody knows what to make of them.

As far as the rest of our season-I think the only game we'll for sure get killed in is Oregon. USC's season is at a crossroads Saturday night in Tucson-who knows how motivated they'll be if Arizona beats them. UCLA screams program changing win to me-They've played to their potential once, and they've played down to Virginia (the ACC's version of Cal), Texas, Memphis, and Utah. Washington doesn't look impressive to me-They've struggled with Hawaii and Georgia State. Arizona has no business being ranked as high as they are (almost as if the AP votes think now that their poll is worthless they can go totally off the rocker). Somebody will make Anu Solomon look like a true freshman, and they won't come close to going unbeaten. Utah-I wouldn't expect anything other than a very tight game with them; the first three all have been.

Including that amazing touchdown to Spruce against ASU when the coverage could not have been tighter (the one in the south end zone, not the one in the north endzone which was a freakish play too, just not in the red zone).

Was the one-handed TD grab by Spruce in the CSU game, thrown in the redzone? That was a great throw as well.

One of the things we consistently heard out of the practice reports this fall was that the team was good inside the red zone. It's cool that our guys on the board who were able to make those practices saw something, and that something has translated to the actual schedule.
