BOULDER – The University of Colorado plans to break ground May 12 on several new athletics facilities and upgrades to Folsom Field after a record-breaking year of private donations.

In the past seven months, the athletic department has made significant progress on the fundraising goals and anticipates meeting that goal in the very near future. Completion of the majority of the project is expected prior to the fall 2015 football season.

CU will celebrate this announcement during halftime of the spring football game on April 12. The game, covered live by the Pac-12 Network, will kickoff at 12 p.m. at Folsom Field. The ceremony will feature remarks from CU President Bruce Benson, CU-Boulder Chancellor Phil DiStefano, Athletic Director Rick George and two student-athletes, Juda Parker (football) and Clare Wise (skiing).

This is great news. A little disappointed they couldn't tie the groundbreaking into the spring game in front of football fans and the TV cameras instead of a month later, but better late than never. Finally!

I think they are going to do a ceremonial ground breaking tomorrow. I think May 12th might be actual

CU turf has a twitter pick of a box that looks like they will fill with dirt. Ceremonial shovels at halftime, PAC 12 network audience and maybe the video we have yet to see but is out there?

Isn't a ground breaking always ceremonial? A bunch of suits with gold plated shovels.

I've been at ones where they do it after construction has already started, with construction guys sitting in the background waiting for everybody to leave so they can get back to work.
