BYU v. Utah Drama

This week:

You Tube video from pre season comes out of UTah kids "baptizing" a team mate in the cold tub. Some BYU fans furious over mocking of their faith.

Senior linebacker suspended for five games from BYU.

Yesterday the SL trib obtained the emails. The compliance officer at Utah recieved photos of the linebacker at a club in Vegas with an explanation that he was flown their and provided a night on the town by a big BYU booster. Compliance officer forwards the email and picture to her counterpart at BYU.

Facts now known.(Via internt rumors) Senior line backer was at a club and one of the people in attendance was the linebackers girlfriends ex boyfriend.

Someone photoshopped a picture of the Utah compliance officer with a book of Mormon and bottle of whiskey in such a fashion that it is being debated if it is real or not.(This was allegedly done at a conference by someone in the BYU compliance department and she found it funny enough that she put it out there on some photo sharing site).

This is a rivalry. People messing up other people's lives over a football game.

Related story: When I first moved to Park City our home in Boulder hadn't sold. We moved into a Condo until it did. Like most ski area condo's, lots of vacationers were there to party. One afternoon a group of guys were partying on the deck. A few hours in they are all wearing their football helmets. I went over and told them to think about what they were doing. "I don't care if you guys have a good time, but wearing your BYU helmets while drinking on the deck isn't that smart". They were smart enough to not take offense and take off their helmets and put them back in the condo.

Or...were they Utah dudes executing a Black Flag operation???

Covert Ops!

Could of been. But at that age in my circles the money to buy the head gear certainly would have been needed for beer or food!

LOL.

Just so you guys know, when BYU announced this suspension out here, it was for "Honor Code Violations", not "NCAA improper benefits violations".

every time i read something about the byu honor code all i think of is jim mcmahon and hypocrites.

On a somewhat related note, do we even want these guys for our (manufactured) "rivalry" game, that is some pretty underhanded crap for a random fan to pull and then for Utah compliance to participate in, even if all they did was forward the info.

The more cheap shots they take, the easier it will be for us to hate them. I'm gonna need some hate if I want to get into this rivalry.

I doubt that we'll ever have a heated rivalry.

Yeah, they'll hate BYU forever regardless of how often they play. They've got their eyes on targeting the powers of the conference just like we do and there's a lot of connection between the states of Utah and Arizona. Then there's also Utah State's current rise to further preoccupy as a little brother type situation. I'll be shocked if CU/UU is ever more than a secondary rivalry at best.

Yep. It could be like we had with KSU as a "rival", but that's about the high water mark I see for it.

Right now there is alot of speculation about whether the guy who ratted out the suspended player is an ex, a jilted lover, a utah fan, etc. The IP address is from Vegas. Seems likely to me it was someone trying to move the line by geting an NFL calibre linebacker benched days after the line was established. Guy parties in a Vegas club and has his picture taken and the fan bases want so badly to cast stones at each other, they ignore the obvious.

Interesting to watch
