Cal women's basketball guard Gabby Green to transfer

I know that the former staff had tried recruiting her. Is there a problem with in-conference transfers like there was in the Big-12 where players not only had to sit out a year but lost some eligibility?

Nope. Pac-12 just follows NCAA regs without an additional in-conference penalty, iirc.

Do women's BB players even need to sit out a year? I believe so and that it's the only women's sport that imposes that, as it's considered a Revenue sport.

Yes, WBB transfers have to sit a year. No other women's sport has that rule for a first transfer. If a player transfers a second time, I know they have to sit out a year, at least in volleyball.

BeBe, the 'sit out year' is not that big a deal. They still get to practice and learn the new system and don't forget, athletes get 5 years in which to play four.
Just returned from a great trip to Machu Picchu, Lake Titicaca, etc. Missed you all.

I think transfers within the PAC 12 sit two years and lose one year of eligibility. I think the school they are leaving has the ability to approve release from the second year.

I asked JR about this today and here is what she told me:
"CU has a rule where they will not release a player to any Pac-12 school, so since CU wouldn't release a player to Cal, Cal would not release a player to CU. Most conferences have a rule where if you transfer within the conference, you not only have to sit out a year but also lose a year of eligibility. Gabby is not coming to CU."

The new coach's dad is pretty rad.

Yeah, he's a cool guy! Well, what I meant to say was a humble thank you, Denver_sc :) JR and I tease a lot. I met a CU student in Lima yesterday who is here for a summer study program and told her to go to a game, go to the bench and tell JR she met her Dad in Lima. Did the same to 2 different CU recent grads we met at Machu Picchu. The CU student I met yesterday is going to join us at the first exhibition game. Fun. BTW, JR bought a new home today, so guess you all have got her for awhile. She and her family are loving Boulder & CU.

So this is a CU rule, not a conference rule. Glad that is cleared up and nobody can put the blame on the coach.

Previous coach would not release a player who quit after playing in one exhibition game so she had to go the juco route. That was not right, imo. If they don't want to play for you, let them go. Restrict them if need be as to schools, but give them the release. Player ended up at Old Dominion after juco and then as a grad transfer at Minnesota.

Buffgal, I can't speak to the situation that you're referencing but the NCAA rule is that if the student athlete enrolled/attends classes (any) they have to sit out one year from the date they withdraw. They can play juco immediately

She didn't have a choice from the way this article reads. The late Patrick Harrington had recruited her and CU would not release her from the NLI. She ended up playing juco ball for Harrington. I don't understand why new coaching staffs don't release players from NLIs. Coach Payne released a player from her NLI. Kelly didn't want to play for Lappe. Article makes it sound like since she was not released from her NLI, she had to enroll at CU.

Step down from Pac 12. Wish her well.

Now to get our non-conference schedule so I can play a trip to Boulder.

Agreed. JR says won't be published till all contracts are signed by both schools & waiting on the other schools. Can't even announce who they're playing till all signed. We arrive AM of Nov 8th & depart AM of 14th back to Peru and J says we'll see one home game & one away about an hour away - both exhibition games. See you then Buffgal, Bebe & whomever else. Hope we get a good group!
