Can the Offensive line improve?

This has puzzled me for a long time. The tale of the tape would suggest that CUs O-line can go toe to toe with any team in the nation. In the last several years a few of them have gone to the NFL and been successful there. My question is, what is the qualitative difference between Oregon's line and CU's? or what is the meanness quotient that makes a line or individual lineman good? What makes one 6'5" 310 Lb lineman better than the next one?

I do believe that the coaching HAS to be better with the current group. It is frustrating to me to CU year in and year out get their asses kicked in the trenches. Maybe there is something to the star rating on big ugly recruits.

I think a big problem is who they've been practicing against.

Quick answer? Nope.

Nope to what?

Anyways, What made the 2001 line good? Being able to establish the run or play action, or were they just that much better? The team has had some talented linemen, I don't know if its coaching or play calling or a combo.

Nembot is a complete liability. They have no confidence in him at all. On passing downs he does chop blocks every time

Is there a way to coach him up? I would assume that he works as hard as anyone on the team and it appears that he has a competitive streak. Would he do better on the d-line?

I'm not holding my breath. I've been expecting an improved OL for the past 8 years now.

If CU could not mount a decent run attack against OSU in game three of the year, I think the question of whether the OL is going to produce this year has been answered.

Nembot appears to have the physical tools, the work ethic, the desire. Will the light come on for him? When?

I think in addition to just being very raw and not knowing what he is doing their is also a question about if he has the feet to be effective. The first problem can be fixed, the second one I'll defer to FlaBuff's opinion.

Some people who are "long term projects" and "very raw" just turn out to not be very good. I'm not singling out Nembot, but every "very raw" player doesn't turn into a stud.

I'm just sick of thinking "next year" is the year that the OL will finally be solid, only to be inevitably disappointed once injuries and attrition set in.

Meanwhile Walker Williams is second on the depth chart at RT at Wisconsin as a Fr.

We either haven't closed on the talent that would have made things better or the talent we have closed on either isn't here or hasn't shown that it can play at this level yet.

The past few years have seen the largest number of quality HS OL coming out that I can remember and they virtually all went elsewhere.

Hopefully guys like Miller are a sign that things are looking up in terms of keeping quality OL talent home but unfortunately OL may be one of the toughest places for young guys to come in and contribute early.

This like so much with our team is going to take some time to fix.

With all the staff change turmoil at Wisconsin, there's a good chance we could have gotten Walker to come here if the MacIntyre staff had been in place. One of his main hot button issues was player injuries. CU's stats had been horrible. Walker's big into fitness/training and knows that a good S&C program would avoid that. The results Forman achieved at Stanford and then at SJSU would have a huge impact on someone like Walker. We weren't getting him with the MASH unit we were running here in recent years.
