Cheap Asses with the Kansas Game

So I have seen this a few times on this board so far, and I wanted to set the record straight. CU charging $45 for the Kansas game is not only the right thing to do, they should actually charge more. This is a premier game, and it should pull premier prices. Kansas Fans will gladly pay that along with their 10 + hour drive, but a CU fan that just needs to go to the other side of town to see some of the finest college basketball around, its just too expensive. Look on Stub hub at the prices of tickets, http://www.stubhub.com/colorado-basketball-tickets/colorado-vs-kansas-1-25-2011-998881/, you will see that if they charged $5, or even $20, it wouldn't increase the # of CU fans in the stand, but instead increase the # of scalpers buying blocks of tickets. Why should we promote the scalpers to make money, but not allow the Athletic Department to make money on this game?

Last year as I was offered $2k/ticket for my two seats. Granted I have good seats, but I am sure that even with crappy seats I could have more than paid for my season tickets on that one game and even had some money left over to buy myself something fancy.

So you should all be greatful of the ability to watch basketball of this caliber, in such a great venue, stop bitching about the price, and step up to the big table.

I bought 2 season tickets knowing full well I can't make it to all of the games.

With work and kids, I am lucky to make 2- 3 games a year. The games I can't make, I donate the tickets to Chauncey's kids. Kansas is the one game I never miss. ( I try to make it to the Oklahoma game... I will never forget being flipped off by Billy TUbbs)

I have a healthy hatred for the JayKawks, much like my dislike for the Corn in football.

They didn't show consistent effort and the product wasn't good. In that circumstance, being able to pay for your entire season ticket package by selling 1 of the games and sitting it out made a lot of sense for a lot of people.

But that started changing last year. Buff fans recognized it, represented well for the KU game, gave us an actual home court advantage (even though there were a lot of KU fans there), and we took them to overtime in a game we really should have won. This year, the team has gone above and beyond expectations in the Big 12 so far and on the home court. They have earned loyalty from Buff fans. It's not right to sell your tickets for this one.

You make good points Nik. After I graduated...... over 25 years ago :wow: I was not in a very good place. I sold my Nebraska tickets to some Huskers in order to eat. It was easy money ( I still feel ashamed, however )

and it's my choice as a consumer to NOT pay 4 times the price as other games. all the games matter and i'd rather go to those other 3-4 games (ATM, KSU, UT...Mizzou) than just the 1 "marquee" game.

Of course, when Buffellow was at CU, we were god-awful. His selling tickets to those Nub dorks is the equivalent of fans selling to KU in earlier years.

and it's my choice as a consumer to NOT pay 4 times the price as other games. all the games matter and i'd rather go to those other 3-4 games (ATM, KSU, UT...Mizzou) than just the 1 "marquee" game when all the amateurs grace the team with their fan presence. and when CU plays a decent OOC home schedule, i'll up for season tix again. this is a matter of principle i've posted about many times over the years.

i've been to more CU basketball games in the last decade than 95% of peeps on this board, so if you are in the basketball forum for the first time in the last couple weeks "all of a sudden"....save the high horse. not trying to be confrontational, just my opinion.

I remember going to games as a freshman in 1983 and we were happy with the team making first downs....scoring plays were pretty much out of the question. So, you and I are the same vintage. DBT, on the other hand, is a relic from the 1950s.

I agree, look at KSU, I think their stadium only holds ~11.5k, people, but they have 11k season tickets sold. I have season tickets at UMD as well, but as I live in boulder, I rarely make it to too many games, but they are packed every game, and the big games (Duke, UNC, etc) you are able to scalp the tickets for very good money, and typically to Maryland fans too. This should be a goal of the Athletic Dept. I will agree that I am not a huge fan of this as it will also mean that the price of our season tickets will go up, but you are just paying for a better product.

I have to diagree with this 100%. In '03 (I think) I missed the Kansas and Texas game, and I still beat my self up for not going. I went to every other game, but do I remember any of those games? Sorda, but the chance to beat a #1 Kansas team only comes around very rarely, and you have to jump on it when it happens. I could have made some serious money (and I could really use it) last year for the KU game, but when I am 65, what will I remember, extra money? or the experience of the game? I am pretty sure that I will cherish going to the game a lot more.
