BOULDER – Former University of Colorado and WNBA guard Chucky Jeffery has signed a one-year contract to play for ASC Sepsi SIC Sfantu Gheorghe of the Romanian Liga Nationala.A native of Colorado Springs, Colo., Jeffery will play overseas for the first time after spending parts of the last two seasons with the New York Liberty of the WNBA. Jeffery played in 15 games for the Liberty in 2014 after making her professional debut with a pair of appearances for the New York squad in 2013. She was originally selected by the Minnesota Lynx in the second round of the 2013 WNBA Draft.
“Chucky has a great opportunity in Romania to continue her playing career,” Colorado head coach Linda Lappe said. “We are very excited for her and are grateful she has signed on with Sepsi SIC. She aspires to play in the WNBA and this is a huge step in preparing her for next season."
Jeffery was a two-time All-Pac-12 selection for Colorado and four year standout from 2009-13. As a senior, Jeffery led Colorado in scoring (13.7 ppg), assists (4.0 apg), rebounds (8.2 rpg) and steals (2.2 spg), helping the Buffaloes to a 25-7 record and a berth in the 2013 NCAA Tournament.
She is the only player in program history to record 1,600 points, 900 rebounds and 400 assists, ending her career sixth in scoring (1,644), fifth in rebounding (921) and fourth in assists (481).
ASC Sepsi SIC Sfantu Gheorghe is coming off a successful year in Romania’s Liga Nationala where they were a finalist in the Romanian Cup, semifinalist in league play and also participated in Euro Cup competition.
Jeffery’s first Romanian Cup game will be on Sept. 20, against CSM Targoviste and her first league game is scheduled for Sept. 27, against BC Timisoara.
