Clarett, NCAA and tOSU...

Anyone else watching the Outside the Lines on ESPN about Maurice Clarett?

I must admit, I think I was brainwashed by the media who seemed to quickly take the side of the NCAA and OSU. I had assumed Clarett was a spoiled bad dude but the ESPN show paints a very different light on that whole deal. Many people threw him under the bus including the AD at OSU, Tressel, the judicial system...

What was it that he had in his water bottle at Broncos' camp? Grey Goose?

By the time he spent 2 years out of college for BS NCAA crap and being thrown under the bus, Clarett lost control of things and among other things became an alcoholic.

But watching this show, I tend to feel that had the NCAA and tOSU not discarded him so easily after his freshman year, he probably would still be playing in the NFL. We will never know, just sayin.

I've been watching it, very different than I expected. Seems as though he's come a long way. Too bad he didn't play in the league, he would of been a very good player.

This is a great 30/30 the most recent shows haven't been ones that interested my even though I still watch. This is great though, but I still feel like espin is once again using a player to driver their ratings. At least this time Maurice can try to tell his side of the story and his struggles.

Tressel came around again to support him but he wasn't there when Clarett needed him most b/c Tressel had much more to lose when he was still a coach at OSU. But, at least in the video, Tress comes out alright in his support for Clarett. All in all, very interesting and I have more respect for Clarett than I did before.

The fact that Tressel is supporting him now doesn't really endorse Tressel, in my mind. It doesn't take any courage at this point. I'm fairly convinced Tressel is not a good dude, and that's putting it mildly.

He'd be 33, the lifespan of a RB isn't that great, a major reason he wanted to go pro after his freshman year as the documentary pointed out.

True-maybe he wouldn't still be playing now but you sure get the impression he wouldn't have been an NFL flop. 5-8 years in the NFL would have been a nice career with some nice paychecks.

Paychecks may have killed him.

Somebody post a picture of Cuddy (Cutty?)

Good show, remember how we were BBQed in the media? Sucks for MC, wish him well, there is life after football, one of our own is struggling mightily right now, can't say who but a great buff is in a dark place, pray for him if you pray.

Then why mention it at all?

Sorry I gotta correct myself, Maurice Clarett is 30 NOT 33. So better chance he'd still be playing now, but far from certain.

Tressel is one of the biggest douchers in a profession filled with gigantic douchers.

I have no doubt that he would have thrown Clarett under the bus in a minute if it would have suited his purposes.

I thought the same thing and maybe he is. But I like what he's been doing at Akron.

I found myself rooting for Clarett while watching the show. I hope he puts it all together.

Clarett came off very well in that show. Surprisingly, when we're talking about a guy who has been in as much trouble as he has. Thoughtful, intelligent guy.

and pretty smart when it came time to set himself up for the NFL.

That was a good watch. BTW - **** OSU

It would be nice if we had our own 30-for-30. Maybe about Sal or how we got shat on be the media for the scandal. But with our luck they would take hnidas side and make us look bad again.

Baine Kerr would insist upon it.

My former colleague Bruce Plasket should be enjoying the results of his hard work. But he's stewing in Albuquerque, wondering if his book will ever see the light of day.

His book is "Buffaloed: How race, gender, and media bias fueled a season of scandal." It's about football at the University of Colorado in Boulder.

Plasket spent many hours last fall with the team, and concluded that the program and its participants were being demeaned by unsubstantiated allegations that were orchestrated by Prescient Communications, a public-relations firm engaged by the attorneys for Lisa Simpson, a young woman who was suing CU for fostering an environment hostile to women.

Plasket's book was supposed to be published this year by Prentice-Hall. But Baine Kerr, a Boulder attorney who represents Simpson, sent a 60-page letter to Prentice-Hall which charged that Plasket's book was misleading or worse. The letter had the phrase "swamp of litigation."

Prentice-Hall had already begun to publicize the book: "The story he tells is shocking: a caché of false charges and hidden agendas, of manipulative PR firms and politicians without integrity." But after the lawyer's letter, the publisher backed out, and even demanded that Plasket repay his advance.

I met Bruce Plasket in about 2007 through a professional colleague of mine. About a year later, she told me he was working as a construction laborer because he couldn't find a journalism job.

The CU "scandal" was a case study on how it's important for politicians, public figures and media persons to be on the "right" side of an issue even if the facts don't support them.

Actually had an idea for one called "Miracle Workers" which would chronicle the program from the Miracle in Michigan to the present with Big Mac billed as a miracle working turnaround artist. Sadly, I have no money or experience in the entertainment business, so it probably won't happen.
