Coach Prime and X&Os ... and does it matter?

I know there's already too many Prime threads, but they all focus on how great this is from a relevancy standpoint, recruiting, his controversial style, his fit with CU culture. All totally good conversations.

What I want to know is ... how about Xs and Os? Can he actually coach at this level? Will his schemes work? You could argue it doesn't even matter. Even if he's a mediocre X&Os coach, the recruiting will be so good that we at the very least get back to consistent bowl eligibility, which we'd all be more than happy with.

There are great x & o guys even at the HS level. What separates at this level is whether you can attract talent, develop talent, and motivate elite athletes.

That said, there's no question that Coach Prime and staff know how to put together systems, game plan & play call to put pressure on opponents and put their players in position to make plays, coach techniques, etc. Coach Prime was an elite athlete and is crazy charismatic, but his success is due to being a student of his craft.

Superior talent is good enough to win 8-9 games, but yes, at some point they will have to have great game day coaches, sound fundamentals, great scheme/X's and O's, and coaches who are great at gameplanning if they want to be part of the upper echelon of the sport.

He is an CEO coach. Not a Xs and Os coach. He heavily relies on his assistants but he knows how it's suppose to look and hold them as accountable as the players

He has eyes everywhere and is an extremely tough minded coach. I would call him the Black Bobby Bowden.

He runs an air raid offense with pro style tendencies. They play at a slow to mid tempo. They are 60/40 in favor of the pass. I am pretty sure his OC will likely come from the tree of Art Briles or Mike Leach. Look to Seth Littrel or Washington State OC who coached at UIW to be the OC.

Defensively, they ran a 46 defense and played man to man exclusively and brought pressure every play but I don't expect that to happen at Colorado. They hired a new DC who has his own scheme. Dennis Thurman was the DC at JSU and he came from the tree of Buddy Ryan. QBs are too good to run a 46 defense at this level.
