Kansas State quarterback Carson Coffman lost his starting job for the second consecutive season, but when he's gotten his chance in this game, he's taken advantage.
Trailing Colorado by double digits, the Wildcats had to turn to the more accomplished passer in Coffman, relegating Collin Klein to the bench. Coffman has thrown a touchdown pass and run for another to get Kansas State within a touchdown of Colorado, who has a 37-29 lead behind a running game that's been unstoppable for most of the day. That's been headlined by Rodney Stewart, who has 171 yards and has accounted for three touchdowns (2 rushing, one passing), and none were bigger than his 51-yard run to take a 37-22 lead after Coffman's first touchdown pass cut the lead to one possession.
Coffman has struggled for much of the season, but he's completed 9-of-14 passes for 146 yards today, as well as his rushing touchdown. He'll need to make a few more plays down the stretch, and the Wildcats defense will have to keep Rodney Stewart from slipping through its front seven for Kansas State to complete the comeback.
