College Football Playoff

If CU had wins against Kent State, Western Kentucky and Chattanooga instead of a losses at Michigan and at USC how quickly would they be laughed out of the playoff discussion?

I see your point. CU would have to have a track record of winning four national championships in the past eight years and beat teams like #20 USC, @#19 MISS, @#16 ARK, @#9 TENN, #6 TA&M, and @#13 LSU to be given the benefit of the doubt like that.

LSU= Drastically over rated because they play in the SEC, but heck they beat Jacksonville State (I thought that was a city) and Southern Miss.
Ark = Drastically over rated because they play in the SEC. But hey they have non con wins against Texas State (oh my), a bad TCU (by 3) and Louisiana Tech by 1.
TA&M = If Cougin' it is a Saying TA&M should have something for their special gift too. For those that aren't aware they beat Texas San Antonio, Prairie View A&M and New Mexico State in non conference games to prove how tough they are.
Miss = Hey look we have a losing record but we are ranked! Oh and three of their wins came against the huge powerhouse programs of Memphis, Wofford and Georgia Southern

If those five teams don't make the rankings a complete joke, then what does? Add those five teams to the list of three in my first post and you're looking at a very weak Alabama schedule.

Put any of those non con schedules on a PAC team and that PAC team wouldn't have a prayer of being ranked or even considered. Instead we would be reading article after article about their weak non con schedule (Hi Washington!).

Do you like reading classic novels? I suggest Don Quixote.

Penn State is the most problematic team right now.

1) Alabama should win out
2) One of Michigan, OSU, and Wisconsin is in, but the rest get another loss - Michigan winning out helps us the most (as has been stated earlier)
3) Clemson should win out
4) This would be Washington's spot if they win out but could be ours if we win out

Need Penn State to lose to Michigan State at home (not highly likely) and then OU to lose to OSU at home in a tight game - not a blow out because OSU is only one spot behind us.

Alabama could lose to Auburn or Florida and still probably make the playoff. We shouldn't worry about them-I don't think they've got a lot of influence on us. Here's what gets us in:

1. A Pac 12 championship with the following in conference to happen this week:
-we beat Utah
-Washington wins the Apple Cup
-Stanford beats Rice (need that win to look as impressive as possible)
and one of the following:
1. Clemson doesnt win the ACC Championship. This isn't as important as what happens in the B1G, but it ensures an available spot by eliminating the ACC from CFP contention.
2. More critical-I think the B1G gets at least one team in, and we need that to stay at only one team. I think the only way that doesn't happen is Penn State winning the conference, assuming the committee doesn't come to their senses and say our resume is better.

I don't see how we make it to the top 4 without the committee bumping us over some teams. I am Okie State's, MSU's and Minnesota's biggest fan right now.

Let's say that Wisconsin loses to 8-3 Minnesota and OSU beats Michigan- that would pit Nebraska against Penn State for the conf title, right? And let's say Nebraska wins the game.. doubtful Nebraska gets in the CFP, leaving only one Big10 team (OSU) to get an invite.

If we win out, we can jump penn state if Michigan wins out. Biggest problem is OSU winning, and then penn st or Wisconsin winning the conference.

The game is in Columbus, but OSU's offense seems to get worse by the game and they just win by manhandling people. That won't happen against Michigan.

Washington State only fell 3 spots in the AP and Coaches polls. It remains a quality W for now but we'll see what the playoff committee thinks.

And that would be the biggest question, who goes from the Big10 - conference champ Wiscy/PSU or Ohio State? Or both? And it's even tougher if PSU wins the conference because they beat OSU and would be the Big10 champ, yet OSU would only have 1 loss and that great resume. Then throw a 1 or 2-loss Pac12 champ and a 2-loss OU/OSU Big 12 champ in there and you have a real mess. Will make for great discussion, no doubt about that.

The AP & Coaches both have CU at #9 now. Have a feeling that's where we land on Tuesday as well.

I think the number 7 rank is more like it for the CFP, this week... Things are set up for us to come in at number four and make the #CFPlayoffs. All the Buffs can do is their part, and win out.

we need Pedophile State to lose. They don't belong in the conversation. They lost to a decent Pitt team in a close game. They got blown out by Michigan on the road the week after we showed teams how to expose Michigan's secondary. 49-10. That's a good comparison, edge to CU big time.

They have beat:
Kent State 33-13
Temple 34-27
Minnesota 29-26
Maryland 38-14
OSU 24-21
Purdue, Iowa, Indiana, and Rutgers.

Let's hope that Dantonio has MSU playing better now!

I don't think we make the playoffs, but if we win out and OU does as well, we will jump them. I guarantee that.

Big 12's lack of a CCG and that loss to Houston would put them at a large disadvantage against us.

We all need to pray for Oklahoma to lose to Oklahoma State. Really wishing this game was in Stillwater this weekend. Also, I hope that our guys don't start looking ahead. Utah is a smash-mouth team that is going to be looking for blood after their loss to the Ducks at home.

I really think we jump PSU if we win out, particularly if Michigan beats Ohio State next weekend.

In Norman in two weeks. No conference championship game means they schedule regular games that weekend.

For the record... I still hate the Playoffs. As is with most years, the 3 and 4 teams really have no business playing for a national championship. Even in 2001, we got our asses handed to us by Oregon. Yeah, yeah, demoralized about not playing in the NCG...blah blah blah. Championship teams don't do that. NC teams also should have 2 losses.

But since it's the way it is, GO BUFFS!!!

SIAP in one of these multitudinous threads ... but this is a pretty good write-up of the whole CFP possibility.

2. It's time to talk about Colorado as a playoff contender

As recently as one week ago, it was reasonable to posit that Washington was the Pac-12’s only legitimate candidate to make the College Football Playoff. The Huskies were undefeated and slotted at No. 5 in the first set of the selection committee’s rankings. More importantly, the manner in which they handled conference opponents suggested they were in a different class than the rest of the Pac-12: Washington wasn’t just beating teams, but crushing them.

Yet the assumption that the Huskies would comfortably stroll into the national semifinals looks increasingly dubious. Washington’s less-rosy outlook is partly of its own making; the Huskies were bludgeoned by USC on their home turf earlier this month. Yet that defeat may not even be their biggest obstacle to reaching the final four. Washington will have to take down two quality opponents before selection Sunday, either of which is capable of upending the Huskies and thereby denying them a CFP bid. The first is Washington State, which remains a frightening proposition for any defense even after Saturday’s result, especially in Pullman, where the Cougars are averaging 14.7 more points per game than on the road. The other opponent could be Colorado, which flashed the sort of defensive form Saturday that could stultify Jake Browning, John Ross and the Huskies’ offense.

However, the Buffaloes’ win over the Cougars suggests a potential Washington-Colorado matchup should be framed in a different light. The Buffaloes may be in line to reach the playoff themselves at Washington’s expense. Yes, a team picked to finish last in its own division this preseason could earn the Pac-12’s lone invitation to the final four.

And Colorado may not even have to face the Huskies to get there. Ranked 10th in the selection committee’s latest top 25, the Buffaloes could meet Washington State in a rematch for the league title. To get there, Colorado will need to beat Utah next week (more on that below). Wins over the Utes and Cougars could vault the Buffaloes into the discussion for a spot in the playoff field depending on what happens in other Power 5 leagues. Of course, Colorado also could face Washington in the conference title game, but the Huskies will need to beat the Cougars in the Apple Cup to make that happen.

Whomever Colorado meets if it reaches the league title game, it has done enough to warrant consideration as a CFP participant. A few months ago, the more pertinent discussion regarding the Buffaloes was whether MacIntyre was on the hot seat. Now he’s on the cusp of leading them to their best season in more than two decades.

Please don't anyone pinch me ... I don't wanna wake up.
