I thought it would be interesting to discuss the group and their biases.

Jeff Long - AD at Arky

Barry Alvarez - AD at Wiscy

Mike Gould - Some Air Force Dude

Pat Haden - AD at USC, came on the field to help Sark object a call tonight - a USC homer

Tom Jernstedt - a former something that relates to sports

Oliver Luck - AD at West Virginia and proud father of Andrew

Archie Manning - His sperm created the SEC.

Tom Osborne - My guy wouldn't do that stuff. Blend and extend

Dan Radakovich - AD at Clemson

Condoleezza Rice - What is a foosball and where are the WMD's?

Mike Tranghese - a former something, probably drywall

Steve Wieberg - another former something, might be related to Spielberg but not sure.

Tyrone Willingham - a college coach worse than Hawk.

Are any of these people qualified to select the top 4 teams in the nation for a playoff? There isn't one ESPN person on the list so I'm not buying it.

There is some clause that a member must recuse themselves if a school that they have ties to is involved, and thank God no one from ESPN is on the list. You trust those blockheads? No matter what someone is left out that may have a case.

The thought of current ADs like Hayden making this decision scares the hell out of me. There is bias for teams, conferences and people like Rice who is a Stanford grad and who has no place in this decision. The best and least biased base is D1 coaches. You can throw out conference loyalties, but the screening gets down to guys who have to plan against the best teams in the country. Let the coaches decide, they know better than Condi and half of the other people on this committee.

I am not a fan of the committee in the least. Too much room for bias, improper influence, etc. If the powers that be really wanted to get it RIGHT there would be a multiple pronged approach:

1. Abolish the preseason polls. No poll until week seven at the earliest. Removes any competitive advantage granted by being inaccurately ranked high based on perception and expectation (see South Carolina, Ohio State, etc this year, every year with examples). Looking back on many of the BCS 'controversies' it can be traced to one team being ranked higher at the start of the year and voters have a hard time 'moving them down' despite another team playing better.
2. Scheduling. All P5 conferences play the same number of conference games and no FCS opponents.
3. Utilize the computer polls. Factor in things like strength of schedule, etc and remove the human emotion and biases.

Going to 8 teams wouldn't be the solution without these three conditions in place in my opinion; however, if these steps were implemented I could get on board with the playoff system more.

I mean we'll obviously have controversy. No matter how many teams we have, people will bitch about last in and first out. In theory, there should be less sympathy for the fifth team than there was for the third in the past. If you're fifth, you'll have lost once or twice and played a weaker schedule. Want to make it? Don't lose and don't play abysmal OOCs.

The Weasel Dr. Tom and Alvarez's ties to unl should disqualify them immediately

Just out of curiosity, why? She's reportedly a huge college football fan and probably smarter than the rest of the committee put together.

I appreciate she is an intelligent, accomplished and highly educated woman. I believe you whenyou say she is a huge CFB fan, but do you really think spending your life in academia, business and diplomatic pursuits trumps the knowledge and experience of others who spend all their waking hours in the CFB realm? I don't. I may think Dr. Tom could have a bias, but in no way would I question his acumen. She is there because they needed a name, among other things. But that is how it works. I have a relative on a bowl committee and he couldn't tell who plays in that bowl game. He is there because of who he is, or more correctly, what he represents.

I am not sure why as a CU fan we should worry much, it isn't like any of these people will have CU on their mind in the foreseeable future.

The new playoff system is really nothing more than a revamped BCS. It is still the NCAA giving authority to the FBS Commissioners and Notre Dame (why not BYU) to select the committee and oversee their operation. In my opinion, there should be no AD's on the committee. Too many biases and why the hell does Notre Dame represent one school when, at best, three conferences represent 8 or more schools. This isn't as clean. The best part is the bowls who bid won't necessarily be betting on how well a team travels, it's all about TV money.

The champion earns $6M for their conference. If you think the active ADs won't lbbby for teams in their conference, you're nuts. There should be no active ADs on this committee.
