Colorado Traditions & Coach Prime

I saw this post and it got me thinking…

I hope someone sits down with Coach Prime to run him through some CU history and traditions. I would love it if Coach Prime watched the 30 for 30 - The Gospel According to Mac this week (I bet he would love it too)! Some folks weren’t thrilled with his use of the red car.

In one of the YouTube videos by Deion Jr, he also pointed to one of the walls that has the quote, “the pride and tradition of the Colorado Buffaloes will not be entrusted to the timid or the weak” and said that he wanted to put one of Prime’s quotes on that wall.

I’m all for Prime bringing in his own culture and quotes, but I hope they retain some of the CU tradition! It’s that stuff that will still be CU’s brand when Prime leaves eventually. This isn’t a knock on Coach Prime at all btw. I think he’ll get to learn the culture over time.

Keep the culture by integrating it into a new package

The pride and tradition quote can pound sand. It hasn’t been taken seriously by the administration or been relevant for this program in decades, and therefore shouldn’t be viewed as important tradition to uphold.

Honestly, enforcing the “tradition” of this program is part of why CU has been awful for a long time. Prime can start his own traditions.

The only thing I would like to see more of is him repping Buffs gear a little more.

This is the bargain we’ve made. With all the talent and care for players and all the skills we want comes an ego. That ego takes up a lot of the space usually filled with traditions and the like.
It’ll pinch a bit for some us to see many of the traditions that we’ve held on to during these bad years fall to the wayside but on balance I think it’s a good bargain. If we’d been even sort of successful for the last 25 years the math would be different. Time to let a lot of it go and make way for new traditions that will hopefully bring success with them.

the pride and tradition of the Colorado Buffaloes was in fact entrusted to the timid and weak. It was a great statement of strength that the administration turned into a punchline. Time to quit telling that joke.

We used to be in the top 20 for all-time division one football winning percentage.

That's the tradition I want to see respected.

Much of the rest of it has been so defiled and ignored the past 20 years that it doesn't much matter.

Let's win games,
Let's beat conference opponents,
Let's be a team that people all over the country want to see.

Then we can worry about red cars in our pictures.

It was also stolen from Michigan. Mac brought it I’ve run pretty sure.

I'm sure the CU gear is coming. It takes time to design and produce it to Prime's specifications since he doesn't like the ready made Nike gear. I like this new hoodie that he's wearing this weekend more than the first run Prime gear.

Underrated movie.
I had to do my own 6 degrees to remember the name of that movie.

1) Okay, the little blonde was in the tv show about heaven
2) The dude from the tv show about heaven was from Cheers
3) Then back my way into Kristen Bell’s IMDB profile and scroll all the way down to 2009 to find Couples Retreat

I need more coffee this morning. And agreed. It is underrated.

Tell me you're no longer 35 without telling me.

That show wasn't about heaven. That feels like an important distinction to make.
