Colorado v Murray St - 2012 Charleston Classic Final - Game Thread

They look pretty good. We look better. I love that we get 48+ hours to get ready for this game. Hell, we had like 24 to get ready to play the 12 Pac teams.

Murray the Cop is 3-0, but only their win against Auburn stands out. St. John's always wilts when they get away from NYC.

They have athletes. We have athletes. I trust Tad Boyle to make adjustments to whatever they're doing well. That's what he does well.

Canaan is a badass. Going to be another tough day for the Mayor, but I have faith he can do it.

KenPom has us at 61% chance of winning.

Sounds about right. Slightly concerned about a let-down after Baylor, but hopefully having over 48 hours off gives us time to clear our heads and focus. Hopefully we can have a decent edge on the boards. They don't have a ton of size, although they've done a decent job on the boards so far, especially Ed Daniel. Stacy Wilson has started really hot for them, need to keep him under control.

I think this game is going to be a lot closer than I'm comfortable with. I like Murray States style on the offensive side of the game; really run and gun. The only problem for Murray State is their lack of depth especially depth with SIZE. I think the reason we win this game is because our bench will out play their bench. XJ should have a good game after only scoring 7 points against Baylor. Jelly Scott should have a coming out party. Murray State has no counter for his size and athleticism down low. Overall if we just take care of the ball and make a couple more free throws we should be fine.

Looking forward to getting some more national respect next week after we walk away with the Charleston trophy

We're gonna win!

The line opened at CU -1 and moved to CU -2, not a huge line move but in CU's favor none the less.

From a match-up standpoint this is a pretty good one for CU.this is the third game in a row playing a team that likes to run and gun and is led by an elite PG. CU (dinwiddie primarily) has done a great job limiting Dillard and Jackson now they have to do it with Caan.

Not to bore people with numbers, but what CU is doing statistically on defense is ridiculous. Holding teams to .835 points per possession in Charleston. They are just playing phenomenal straight up D, contesting every shot, limiting penetration and getting back on D. If they can continue to do that they will stay if a lot of games no matter the offensive struggles.

we need to set a tone on D...and control the pace of play the first 10 minutes of each half. get them playing halfcourt O.

and make some effin FT's!

Boston College/College of Charleston going down to the wire in the 7th place game

p.s. College of Charleston has an amazing campus. Simply incredible. Fantastic old southern architecture with monstrous Live Oaks and palmettos everywhere. It was a school I half considered attending, because of the campus and the fact it's about 65% female, of which about 98% are extremely hot.

Edit: CofC beats BC 71-67. Good for CofC to end the tournament with a win on their home court. BC really faded in this tournament. After their respectable performance against Baylor and solid first half against Dayton, they had me thinking they could get out of the ACC basement and into the middle of the pack. However, it's become evident that they're destined for 11th or 12th in the ACC.

CofC has a nice little basketball tradition that not many people know about. They were in the top 25 throughout much of the mid-late 90s and made the tournament 4 times during that time span, including beating Maryland and coming *extremely close* to beating Arizona in the Second Round the year Arizona was national champion. More recently, Bobby Cremins was coaching there from 2006 to the middle of last season, and they were regularly winning 20+ games. We almost ran into them deep in the NIT two years ago, when they had an absolute stud in Andrew Goudelock and had a 26 win campaign that ended with a loss in the NIT Quarterfinals.

what was the name of the C of C coach that brought them to prominence? i'm having a forgetful moment.

John Kress or something.

i always thought Bobby Crimmins was a bit overrated despite having some VERY GOOD G Tech teams. with Mark Price etc.

Bruce Dalyrimple. Marbury.

John Kresse. College of Charleston was conference regular season champion OR conference regular season champion AND tournament champion every single year from '93/'94 to '01/'02 (Kresse's final year). That's downright impressive.

you going to the game?

Cremins was over-rated as a coach, but that dude could recruit NYC. He brought a lot of talent down to Atlanta.

Was there Thurs and Fri. Impressed with coaching and freshmen. FT were atrocious. Dayton brought a huge crowd with them. Colorado had a great group come out. Boyle was pumped out of his mind after the Baylor game. Buffs have a great shot tonight. Got to get some anger into Scott and let him put it on. Amazing some of these guys were in high school this time last year.

Hey Nik, I've always respected your analysis. What are the things to watch in this game, how are our odds etc? I know boo about bball

We need to keep this to more of a half court game and dominate the glass. On defense, we've got to make sure that Canaan and Wilson don't go off. Feed the post and get them in foul trouble. I'll be pissed if I see us jacking up a lot of jumpers.
