Colorado vs Michigan 9/17

Hello Buffs! Michigan fan here. What are you all thinking about our game. It will be our first P5 game and, quite frankly, one of the bigger home games this year (OSU, MSU and Iowa are all away). We are pretty optimistic about our team this year, but it's preseason so everybody is. I don't know much about your team (that's why I'm here), but have always respected the Buffalos.

I do have a connection to the Buffalos: one of my college coaches, Pete Schinnick, was a former player at Colorado. He was good coach and a better mentor.

I'm thinking the Buffs get demolished, but hoping they can at least hang around and make it entertaining

I think most fans have it marked as one of the hardest, if not the hardest game on the schedule. There will be a huge contingent of fans coming out for that one. I'd be going to, but I've got a 2nd baby due any day now.

I think it will be a great lesson for our guys. Michigans speed and playmaking are going to test us. It'll help us when we go up against Oregon the following week.

I've got to say, of all the college football blue bloods, I hate Michigan the least.
Yeah... But Harbaugh is just such a douche. That stupid pen on a rope he always wears sound his neck annoys the Hell out of me. Don't ask me why. It just is the kind of thing a total douche would wear.

Your defense looks nasty. Have you figured out the QB situation, though?

Howdy! Let me be the first to mention The Catch in 1994 :D. Our legendary coach Bill McCartney who led us to dominance in the late 80s and 90s was a DC under Bo at Michigan back in the day. I for one like and respect your program and wish you well except on 9/17.

Historically we are a top 25 program with a national championship and Heisman winner. We have been average to very bad the past 10 years and our current coach is in his 4th year of the rebuild. We have the most experienced team in the PAC12 and have been competitive in the conference even though we don't have the Ws to show for it.

Our QB Sefo Liufau is a 4 year starter but most on here would consider him average. We are pretty deep at RB and WR but the OL is the big question and success for our season rides on the OL coming around IMO. They are big (average 6'3" 300# or so) but were completely ineffective last year. We have a new co-OC and former Buff who came from Texas Tech and is amping up our offense with some schemes from TTU. He has helped our recruiting...we should have a Top 30 class this year.

Our D is our strength. We were the only P5 team to have a turnover in every game last year. 2nd year DC Jim Leavitt is a D guru having been part of the KSU turnaround under Snyder in the 90s and build from scratch the USF football program. He was coach when they hit #2 in the nation a few years back. Our DL should be big and quick with a returning NT with some depth. The DBs are our strength with 2 guys on preseason lists. The LBs should be good but we are thin there past the starters.

ST were okay last year. Our FG kicker was below average but he looks lights out in practice so far. We had a FT ST coach, but he was canned and we have multiple coaches working ST...which is more in line with common CFB practice.

No one expects us to beat UM but you guys shouldn't overlook us...but hope you do :ROFLMAO:. I don't know much about UM except that you guys were the elite in the B1G last year. Expect a physical game as we are pretty big and like to hit and you guys are the same. If our O improves to 2014 levels or better, you guys will have some trouble with our passing game. I could see this being a good game into the third quarter but I'm guessing we lose by 10-14. I see a win for us if UM has a bit of an off game and our O comes up with some big plays...which it should be capable of.

Anyway...don't know if that helps...Go Buffs!

Honestly unsure of what to expect. Michigan will no doubt be talented, way more talented than Colorado, but I know that UM graduated a ton of kids last year. The loss of that many upperclassmen will have a noticeable impact early in the season. In the end pretty sure Michigan wins by at least 2 scores, but I am hoping CU fights until the end.

Our defense is experienced and has some very serious big play potential. Chidobe Awuzie is a guy that should play on Sundays along with our NT Josh Tupou.

Offense is a bit interesting. If we can get the same type of production we did in 2014, CU could be very dangerous. We are deep (although inexperienced) at WR, have some ok RB's, a 4yr starter at QB coming off a big injury but appears to be 100% healthy, and an OL that for the first time in a long time should be serviceable.

Going out to the big house with some friends, really excited to check out such an iconic venue.

We actually didn't lose that much production to graduation: QB, center, a tight end, our two LB's and a safety. The running game is our biggest worry, we may have a true freshman, Ben Bredeson starting at right tackle and our starting left tackle last year moved to center. Our RB's are pretty tough, but not likely to take it to the house from a long distance. On defense, we lost two starting LB's, but they were probably the biggest liability last year, and that's after losing our top two NT's to injury. Have no clue what to expect there and a true freshman may have to step up there as well.

The Big House is awesome, but it's very tight. Some seats only give you 20" of space. Lots of knowledgeable fans and they usually treat visitors well. Don't be surprised if you see some arrogance, especially from the older generation fans known as the "Blue Hairs." Seeing that place filled with people is an awesome sight.

If the Wolverines don't win by 21+, you should be very concerned coming out of this game. If the outcome is still in doubt in the 4th quarter, I will be delighted.

Congrats! Once you go on the power play (when the kids out number the parents, we have three) things get more difficult.

This is exactly what I was looking for. Thank you.

Couple of questions. Is your QB dual threat or more of a pocket passer? Does your DL put a lot of pressure or do you have to blitz more?

I too remember the Hail Mary. I was on the bus returning from a game when it happened. One of the coaches on my bus was a Colorado Buff alum. Gave us Michigan fans a rough time. Bo Schembechler did have quite the coaching tree and Bill McCartney was absolutely one of the great ones. Fun fact: McCartney was actually coaching at Dearborn Divine Child, a Metro Detroit high school when Bo hired him for his staff.

I think very highly of the Buffaloes too. I was very happy to see them on the schedule. It's one of the only things former AD David Brandon got right during his tenure was scheduling this game. I hope it's not 20 years before we play again.

If you have any questions about Michigan's team, ask and I will do my best.

Our QB is big and physical and we ran him a lot last year, so yeah he's a dual threat but IMO not a traditional one like a Marriota.

Last year we put a decent amount of pressure on the QB but nothing noteworthy IMO. We expect more this year but prob from OLBs due to the type of D we run. I'm expecting a pretty good run D from our DL. I'm thinking our NT will be all conference.

Guys on here more knowledgable than me may disagree, but that's my take.

Not a good matchup for the buffs IMO. Michigan is big and physical and will probably have a field day with our o line. Only way it stays competitive is if those guys up front take a huge step forward.

I wanted to make the trip out there for the game, but it looks like it is not going to happen. I can't convince any friends/family that it is worthwhile. Also, it seems like a very expensive weekend. Hotels are ridiculously expensive and I don't know anyone local. I hope the team finds fewer excuses than I have.

I predict a blowout loss, but you never know. I don't think our offense will be able to move the ball and the defense is bound to give up some points vs a team like Michigan.

What does CU have to do to have a chance? What weaknesses do u see in your very good team?

I think hitting the edges with your backs, especially if you have speed. Our Mike and Will backers are new and couldn't overtake the incumbents last year. I am worried about teams hitting the edge and the LB's not having the athleticism to get there. Our new DC is installing a trap style defense, but don't know if that will work with our LB's.

Offensively, if the new QB is not up to par yet, the running game may sputter somewhat. We ran well against everyone last year except for OSU, Utah and MSU. This Michigan offense needs balance and if we can't pass, we will be in trouble. Our depth at WR is not as good as I would like. The top two are very good and the slot had good hands, but we would be relying on sub par players or true freshman is any went down.

In reality, our defense should be very good. The DL is as good as I have seen in 20 years and we are returning an All American at CB to go along with some pretty good DB's. The offense is the weak spot and if a QB doesn't emerge, than we will be in trouble.

For those of you going, a couple of places to try:

Zingerman's sandwich shop - expensive, but you won't find a better deli in Michigan

Blimpy Burger - one of the best burger joints in the Midwest

Jolly Pumpkin Brewery - Michigan has some of the best microbrews in the country and Jolly Pumpking is great. They specialize in sour beers that have been aged in barrels. The El Rojo is my personal favorite.
