Good luck to the track and field Buffs in Seattle!

As always, believe these competitions have, at least for the premiere Buff athletes, 2 goals-(in order) - (1) Get NCAA qualifying times/ marks (which many don't have at this point) and then (2) earn points for the team so they finish as high as possible.

(Note- As noted in the article, for those with NCAA Championship qualifying aspirations, the goal is to get a top 16 time or mark to qualify for the Championships in ~2 weeks. Links to seeing the NCAA pages showing top results for the year is -

Of course, with this being Conference weekend for most of the top conferences, assume there could be lots of top season performances over the next few days, so those near the 16th spot now may need to improve their results to insure they'll qualify. If the championships were run today, only a few Buffs have qualifying results- Ben Saarel (mile AND 3000 meters) and Zach Perrin (mile) on the men's side, and Dani Jones (mile) and Erin Clark (5000M) for the women.

Looks like the Buff women are "on the board" as two (both juniors), Maja Wichhart-Donzo and Michaela Wenning, finish 5th (4 points) and 6th (3 points) in the Indoor Pentathlon.

Congrats to them!

Edited to add official tweet-

And now the Buff men are "in the points" after the 5000M run, with senior Ryan Forsyth earning 8 points with his 2nd place finish, while junior Ethan Gonzales earns another 2 CU points with his 7th place finish.

Edited to add tweet-

And, looks like the men's sprinters have added to the Buff's point tally, as junior Duane McClurkin Jr. (who I believe has been coming back from injury) earns 5 (five) 4th place points with his best time of the year in the 200M, while freshman Jon Maas finishes 6th for another 3 points.

Through 5 (with MANY to go) events completed, the Buff men are tied with UCLA for 4th place with 18 total points.

Believe the only races left for today are the men's and women's distance medley relays.

Just wanted to mention that, in the latest Heat sheet (see OP for link), probably the main Buff "name" in track right now, Dani Jones, is no longer listed as starting in the 3000M. Hope whatever is up with her is minor (or in the ideal is just clerical error), and that she can recover quickly. (assuming her issue is minor, she's probably already safely qualified for the NCAA Championships in the mile, as her time was #3 in the NCAA going into this weekend. However, her 3000M time (where she is the defending NCAA champion) is only 18th, so would already need a couple scratches to make Nationals, and that's assuming there are no faster times left to come in the conference championships around the country.)

And, on the men's side, had forgotten to mention earlier probably 2 of their top 3 anticipated CU distance running point scorers going into the year, John Dressel and Joe Klecker, haven't, that I can remember, raced at all this indoor season, so would guess they might both be red shirting, at minimum for this indoor season. (At last season's conference meet, Mr. Dressel won the 3000M while Mr. Klecker won the 5000M.)

And, it looks like some more points for the Buffs, as the women's distance medley relay gets 3rd, earning the team 6 points.

Per the live results, looks like the Buff women will end the day in a tie for 9th place with 15 points through 7 scored events.

Missed a points- earning performance for the women a bit ago- congrats to sophomore Eriana Henderson for her finish in the long jump!
(Edit- corrected tweet from CU track and field)

And, confirmation on the Buff finishes in the men's 200M-

And, in what I believe is traditionally the last event of the 1st day of competition in indoor meets, the Buff men earn a couple points in the Distance Medley Relay (DMR) with their 7th place finish.

Per the live results, they will be going into day 2 in 5th place with 20 points through 6 events.

"
SEATTLE, Wash. – The University of Colorado track and field team put together many strong performances here Friday at the first day of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) Championships. The men are in fifth place with 20 points, while the women are in ninth with 14 points.

"After the first day, I think we are a little better for both men and women than I hoped for us to be," head coach Mark Wetmore said. "I think we did very well in the heptathlon, we ended up fifth and sixth, with Drianna [Mustin] just right on the outside of helping. So, that was great to start with a handful of points and they had some really good individual performances. I believe they all threw the shot put the best they have ever as a group."

The Buffs earned points in many events and advanced individuals to final heats on Saturday.

Looks like the Championships are just completing, with the men's 4X400M races in process. The Buff point scorers today so far include-

No tweet yet, but from live results, look like the best result of the meet- BIG congrats to senior heptathlete Andrew Ghizzone, who gets the Buff's lone win for the meet in that most classic of track events! In addition to those 10 points in the win, sophomore Davis Butte earns 4 points with his 5th place finish.

Looking a little more at live results- looks like the women finished in 5th in the 4X400M relay, so earned 4 points in that final event of the day. Overall, the Live results after that event show the Buff women finishing in 6th place with 41 points over the 17 events. (USC gets the overall win for the women, finishing with 122 points, 24 points clear of 2nd place Stanford.)

And, it looks like the meet is now over, with complete men's 4X400M results showing. The Buffs finished out of the points there. Overall, the men also finish in 6th, with 49 points over the 17 events competed. (USC also gets the overall solid win on the men's side with 107 points, which is 30+ points more than 2nd place BYU.)

And, tweet re the big win in the heptathlon-

Article on the 2nd/ last day of the Championships-

"
SEATTLE, Wash. – Senior Andrew Ghizzonebecomes the University of Colorado's first MPSF Heptathlon champion here Saturday, winning the title with 5,519 total points.

The women finished sixth overall with 41 total points, just one place off their best MPSF finish, fifth. The men earned 49 total points to finish in sixth place to tie their best conference in school history.

WHAT HAPPENED – MPSF HEPTATHLON CHAMPION
Andrew Ghizzone etched his name in the Colorado record book Saturday by not only becoming the first ever MPSF heptathlon champion for the Buffs but also the first ever multi-event champion, indoors or outdoors for CU.

"Andrew had a great weekend. His family was out here. It's his senior year and he goes and PRs and wins the event. Very good day for Andrew, he should be sky high right now!"
