Conference Tournaments Thread

Wichita State falls to Northern Iowa in the Arch Madness semifinals, 57-52 in OT

There's a wide level of disagreement on how the committee is going to view Wichita State. Some, like Lunardi, see them as pretty damn safe. Others, like Palm, see them as very much right on the bubble. It's hard to know what the committee is going to do as the Shockers played most of their key OOC games while plagued by injuries. WSU's RPI is 48.

I think Wichita state gets the benefit of the doubt of all those games without van vleet since they've made a run with him and Baker before.

Weirdness going on in the A-Sun. If Stetson -ineligible for the Dance- wins the tournament tonight, then the regular season champion gets the bid. That would be North Florida, who lost to tonight's other finalist FGCU by 33.

Why would the conf allow an ineligible team to play in its tourney? Stupid.

It's odd. New NCAA rule allows conferences some autonomy on this. It came about in the A-Sun from wanting teams transitioning to DI to be able to participate ("Give the upperclassmen a chance to experience it"). Stetson, though, is no transition team. They got hit by an APR audit a few years back.

It would be kinda sad to see them miss the dance.

.

I think Monmouth should be in. Their resume is hurt by some bad losses and they are rightly on the bubble. But they also went on the road a ton -- most of their schedule and almost their entire non-conference schedule. Banked wins over Notre Dame, USC, UCLA and Georgetown this year. In my book, that's a mid-major that belongs in the tourney. At least in that 11-seed play in game.

I think what might hurt them the most is any number of lower seeded, small conference teams taking their tourney titles.

I like their resume as well. And, well hell, I would absolutely love to see their sideline antics in a huge upset over big name opponent. That would be pure entertainment gold.

I think one of Monmouth and Valpo gets in unless the bid thievery gets extreme. Monmouth's RPI is actually 53, Valpo 51...they've got a win at fellow bubbler Oregon State up their sleeve

Syracuse and Pitt are tipping off soon in DC. This one is going to be intense. It's a de-facto play-in game for the NCAA Tournament

and if Pitt wins we get to listen to Boeheim whine again about how tourney field needs to be expanded.

Pitt at RPI 58 and Cuse at RPI 61. Neutral site win will move one into the Top 55 and probably carry them in even with a loss in the next round. It's hard to justify selecting the loser to Dance, though. Especially with teams like Monmouth and Valpo being likely bubble busters this season after losing in their conference tourneys.

Pitt wins, 72-71.

Cuse is in big trouble. They've stumbled down the stretch and lost their argument that they are a completely different team now that Boeheim is back. Cuse is now 19-13 and its RPI is down to 66. They're likely out. Pitt should fine now, despite still only having just two top 50 wins. 21-10, RPI 45.

Watching this NC State vs Duke game. I would not mind at all if CU drew Duke in the Dance. They're very beatable this year. They have a talent and coaching advantage, but it is a very flawed team that hasn't hit the normal March stride you expect from Duke.

We would absolutely kill them on the boards, but we might let them sink 20 threes

Call in the national guard. Washington is destroying Stanford. 50-22 at halftime.

Have you guys noticed in the Duke game how ESPN highlights the 3-point line in red when someone is shooting a 3? What an extremely helpful feature. I had no idea the 3 point line was even there without the highlight because the bright blue paint doesn't contrast well enough with the light wood floor. Not to mention the two different wood tones inside and outside the 3 point line.

What they really need to do is add that technology that they used to use in hockey broadcasts. Put a highlight with trail on the ball so that I'm better able to follow it.

I thought the point of that was not to show the line more clearly, but to indicate if the shot was a 2 or a 3 (e.g. for situations where both of the player's feet are not in camera range at the moment he shoots).

It's stupid regardless of its intent.

Definitely need the backboard to light up when the ball goes through the net too. That gets confusing. Don't know how many times I've yelled at the screen when a player picks up the ball and runs out of bounds...only to realize it was a made basket.

Hokies pretty much handled FSU. We'll be facing a Hurricane team looking for revenge today. UVA should take care of business against GIT -- I'd be stoked to see the Hokies get another shot at the Cavs on Saturday.
