Congrats to William Whelan (sad day for all of us)

I know there's some sort of event at the CEC going on tomorrow, but I wanted to pass this along to anybody that doesn't have a Rivals sub or hasn't heard yet - but William Whelan the Rivals Hoops writer broke the news today that he has officially accepted a job as a coach with the Oakland Soldiers AAU program. Will has regularly dropped knowledge on Allbuffs (yungc) in the recruiting forums or just to smack us around when we're talking nonsense. To be honest this is a big blow for us CU hoops fans, I'm pretty sure I've consumed every word Will's written on CU hoops, (even when he was at that D list site before he knew better ). Without question Will is the best writer covering CU hoops, he knows the game, knows the questions to ask and knows the stories to report on.

So Will, Congrats! We expect CU to be the next Oakland Soldiers East

Yup, big props to to the dude. If he doesn't deliver some players though, he's gonna pay.

This is an opportunity for him to open so many doors in his career. I'm excited for him and thankful for all the great work he's delivered the past few years.

Congrats Will - great news for you and as JG said above, I have read almost every word you have written. Thanks and knock em dead in the next gig as a coach!

Damn. He was easily the best source of CU hoops information around. Time for RK to step up!

I can't say I'm disappointed about having someone familiar with Tad and the program in the AAU world though.

Thanks so much for the words guys, I'll definitely be around here from time to time still.

Congrats Will!! You provided some great coverage and will be missed.

Congrats Will.... that's a great AAU program your going to!! little bit of prep trivia... the last time a Colorado AAU team went deep in the Vegas spring tourneys was back in 2008... they beat the Oakland Soldiers in the semis on a last second shot to get into the finals... team had OKC Thunder Reggie Jackson, Trey Ekloff, Jorge Guitteriez, Sabatino Chen, Dallas Elmore, Trevor Noonan... heck the whole team all landed on D1 hoops programs w/ the exception of one player... he landed w/ a D1 scholarship for football at CSU i think.... anyways, congrats and hope to see some news on the northern Cali hoops scene...
