I did not think CU would pull this off. I just KNEW Phil would find a way to screw up this hire. That somehow, between him and Ceal, this would turn into a royal fiasco and we would end up in a worse spot than we were in six months ago.
Now, this timing of the Bohn dismissal doesn't seem so crazy. It was done before the Beginning of football season and after the end of the Spring sports season to minimize any disruptions that may have resulted.
They let us bitch and moan for a few weeks while they quietly got their man.
I'm happy to be wrong. Maybe Phil isn't as big of a screw up as I had thought. I do wish he'd be a little more publicly supportive of the AD, though.

I´d first let the dude be in his job for a hundred days

I hope he's doing it for more than that. I get what you're saying, though. Firing Bohn was a calculated risk on Phil's part. If you are going to fire a guy, you better replace him with somebody better. On the surface, and at this point in time, it appears we have done that.
I was the biggest Mike Bohn fanboy on this board, but I'm willing to see the positives George brings to the table, here.

Yeah, I'm sure the multi-million dollar sports businesses he was in charge of (PGA and Texas Rangers) were just child's play compared with a rather smallish, captive sports organization like CU---something George is well aware of, having been at CU before.

Home Run hire!

I first want to see how a guy does for CU before I praise him.

Can we wait til the new guy starts and does something before we shower anybody with praise?

Credit should be given for this hire, especially if the salary numbers are as high as I've heard.

I should probably know this, but does the AD's salary come out of the AD budget, or CU's? Just curious if paying big money for an AD actually hurts the AD books - oh the irony.

I was thinking about that. They had to give him a good salary, I'm guessing the Rangers paid him pretty handsomely.

My point here, which I thought was obvious, is that CU didn't screw this up like most of us thought they would. When George's name was first floated, how many people actually thought he'd be the guy? Furthermore, who thought they'd get this done so quickly? I sure as Hell didn't. I was fully prepared for this fiasco to drag well into the Fall.
Now, will he actually turn out to be better than Bohn was? I don't know. He certainly has the potential to be, though. On paper, it's a great hire. It was pulled off without a lot of drama or sideshow chicanery, too.

The guy has a nice resume - I'm just saying we have found a way to screw up everything in the past - and have hired other folks with nice resumes that didn't work out. Thus I am jaded and will reserve judgement.

I didn't see it coming. CU is in the top 5 of "step on my own dick" AD's I've seen. See how it goes, I'm happy with the hire. Lets just hope certain folks stay the **** out the way and let the man do the job that he was hired for, fingers crossed.

To play devil's advocate he wasn't in charge of hiring and firing coaches in either job.

Sacky: It is definitely a large step in the right direction towards real change within the CU AD and possibly how the school treats the AD. Like you, I was confident we would hire someone no one ever heard of and was marginally qualified.

I'll go with cautiously optimistic like CVille, but certainly a lot happier today than yesterday.

So, anyone catch the word "facilities" even once in that press conference?

Not the time nor the place for it, as much as we would all like to think differently.

Give George a couple months to get his feet under him. If we don't hear something mid October, then get worried.

how is it NOT the time and place for it? The #1 issue for the AD before him was getting those facilities... and now it is just gone?

I will take a bite of crow and hold my tongue further...at least until we have some sort of track record to look at.

The #1 issue is returning to profitability. Discussing facilities would very much seem like placing the cart before the horse after the last AD just got fired for running his balance sheet in the red. That said, it would be nice if they at least mentioned it as a priority.
