California State University Sacramento. The Hornets are the second consecutive CSU on the Buffs 2012 schedule, a home game on Sept. 8.
Their colors also happen to be Green and Gold.
Sacramento State is a member of the FCS Big Sky conference. The Hornets are no stranger to altitude due to regular beatings administered to fellow conference member Northern Colorado. CSUS leads that series 6-0.

Students: 28,016 (vs 28,417 at CSewe)
Notable alumni: Multiple academy award winning actor Tom Hanks & Grammy winner Bobbie McFarrin "Don't Worry. Be Happy"
Hornet Stadium capacity 21,195. Field Turf. (vs 34,400 at Hughes). Average 8,000 per home game in 2011.
Coach: Marshall Sperbeck 24-32 (.429). Sixth season at the Sac.
2011 record 4-7
Sac State's most notable win came on September 3, 2011 in the season opener for both Sac State and Oregon State Beavers at Reser Stadium. The Hornets upset the Beavers on the road in OT 29-28 with a 2 point conversion pass from QB Jeff Flemming to WR Brandyn Reed, beating an AQ Conference team for the first time in school history in front of an announced crowd of 41,581. The Beavers were a 23 point favorite coming into the game.
The Hornets open the season on the road at New Mexico State (Las Cruces) on 8/30, giving them eight days to prepare for their game at Colorado. CU faces Sac State just six days after the Rocky Mountain Beatdown.
The QB should either be Jr transfer Mason Magleby 6-2, 205lb, or Soph Garrett Saffron 6-1, 190. Veteran RB Sam McCowan and WR TJ Knowles (6'7") are likely playmakers.
Sac State is young and is coming off a losing season. This FCS opponent does not have AQ talent that strikes fear in a BCS fan base, but they do have two extra days to prepare, they have confidence after pulling a major upset against Oregon State last year, and have an established track record of beating Northern Colorado at home and up at elevation. If Embree and the crew get caught sleeping, it would be an embarrassment of Montana State proportions and would sour the Buffs season and kill any optimism of the Buffs going to a bowl game. This is a must win game for the Buffs and the coachinng staff to gain any confidence in the rebuilding project.
Now the gratuitous coed shots...
