Ooof - I wish I hadn't just checked that stat. We are averaging just 3.3 yards/carry with the two long TD's included and then just 2.5 yards/carry when they are taken out. As bad as our offensive lines have been the last few years, this one seems as bad or worse than any of them.

How in the world was the message getting out that the OL was going to be the strength or our team this year?
 
It's not just the offensive line. Our RB group is average (being generous).
 
Of course, if you take out the sacks (CU is 119th in the nation in sacks allowed) which count against rushing yards (for reasons which elude me), then CU's rushing average is 5.01 yards per carry (125 rushes for 627 yards).

Let's start a new thread ... CU rushing for an amazing 5.01 yards per carry!!
 
I can always count on my Allbuff daily fix to get me down in the dumps. Just think if we did not have EB (running back guru coach) coaching these backs? We would be in the negative, there is a positive spin on it
 
I think they should aim to be a terrible running team. They'd either be right for a change, or do the exact opposite of what they intend. Either way we come on top...
 
I'll categorize the responses as:
1) Those that so vehemently disagree with my methodology, they can't overcome it to comment on the reality (I did mention we are averaging just 3.3 yards/carry including the 2 long runs, which is 105th in the nation).
2) Those that are so apathetic and numb, it isn't worth discussing further

I would be delighted to fall in the second group at this point. I just have a really hard time letting go.
 
You mean our offense, running game and offensive line are terrible? Who da thunk?

I opened a football thread (accidentally), but decided to read it anyway, and was happy to see it changed into a politics thread. **** football.
 
The long runs do count but the 2.5 is very significant.

What that means is that normally teams don't have to worry a lot about us controlling the ball on the ground. We don't stay on schedule and can easily be forced into passing yardages. When you are in second and 8 or 3rd and 6 the defense has a huge advantage because they don't have to worry about the run. D-linemen tee off on the pass rush. Safeties can focus on coverage. Your chances of picking up first downs consistently goes way down.

I blame this almost entirely on Marshall. We may not be the most talented OL in the PAC but Bak has been mentioned as an NFL draft choice, Munyer had some pre-season notice, our other OL are guys who had recruiting interest from other teams. There is no excuse for not being able to at least open holes to consistenty get 3-4 yards a carry, especially since three of our games were against a decent MWC team in Fresno, a pathetic MWC team in CSU, and a mediocre FCS school. In addition we played WSU which is one of the weaker defenses in the PAC.

Take out the missions of the ENOLA GAY and BOCKSCAR and the B-29 missions didn't really have a major impact on victory in World War II.
 
The difference between great RBs in the league and ones below them are the long runs. You can't discount those.

Passing stats should be affected due to sacks, not rushing.

How many times has Pow been hit behind or at the LOS to make a run? Do they keep stats on those? Dude is tough as rain and falls forward. That's all him and our our pathetic OL. The fact that we average 3.3 yards per rush AND we lead the country in sacks allowed (tied with Cal) is more telling, imo.
