The public university sold a record $304 million of tax-exempt bonds last month, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. It will use $100 million for the stadium on the flagship Boulder campus, and $25 million will go toward a parking garage. The rest will refinance debt and fund projects such as a $49 million student village, bond documents show.

Student Village thing caught my eye. Is the quasi-athlete dorm going to be a part of this? Where is the village going to be?

I don't like the quasi athlete dorm thing. I thought it was cool that Ben Kelly lived above me in Libby. I don't think Student athletes should be segregated into separate dorms.

Too bad. Times change. Athletes want to live with other athletes and not with people like you and me.

I took bong rips with Ben Kelly in Libby.:canabis:

There was a guy who lived at the end of my hall that was apparently a very good basketball player but didn't want to play. Ricardo and his assistants would periodically stop by to try and convince him to play, but he never did.

I knew at least three VT students that claimed they got high with Michael Vick. Before your post, I was actually thinking this was a motivation for athletic dorms (i.e. the consequence to the University for athletes violating these policies is higher than for the average student -- keeping a majority of the athletes together makes the baby sitting job easier).

Everyone is always doggin' Michael Vick.

Could be referring to the new engineering dorms they are building. Apparently they are knocking down the engineering quad and building a new dorm/village area there too.

And as I mentioned before, you can work this with family housing. All the GAs could make a few extra bucks as RAs on the premises.

I think we should paws a bit before we start throwing around 2nd hand accounts of vick's behavior.

I think CU's policy of increasing enrollment and adding expensive student buildings is going to end up biting them in the ass as higher education becomes more dynamic and evolves. There is also a bubble in higher education finance. It may take another 20 years to burst, but it is there. I really wish they would've aimed to raise admission standards rather than increase attendance/income. I understand the low public funding situation at the state level, just think they will be hurt in the long run.

Have a coworker who was visiting a friend in one of the dorms. He was in the hallway waiting for his friend when he heard this growling sound. He looked up and Leon White was at the other end of the poorly lit hall, growling and walking toward him. Then he began kind of jogging. Then he broke into a full run, all the while growling. He may have even yelled, " I'm going to kill you." My coworker about **** a brick. As Leon neared him at a full run, he suddenly pulled up and said, "Sorry man, I thought you were someone else" and he walked on by.

Population growth trends in the state has them thinking they could double the number of students at CU in the next 20 years if they choose to do so.

Friend's kid just moved in to KU dorms as a scholarship athlete. Ridiculous setup in one feels like an apartment. Each athlete has their own private BR/BA with a shared Living Room area. Giant closet space, room in BR for desk, TV, etc.

At CU, an athlete gets a very small dorm, shared with another player. Bathroom down the hall. Food might be close by. Might not.

This matters a LOT when it comes to recruiting. Plus, it would be nice to have it such that guys stayed on campus beyond their freshman years just so they can get 3 squares a day and quit trying to manage their allowance off campus eating ramen..

I had a friend playing for Okie Lite and when he was an underclassmen, he was in an older building but still had his own set up like that. When he became a starter, his dorm got pretty nice. Definitely can play into recruiting.
