CU Buffs' Tad Boyle not leaving for Texas A&M

:dance2: :dance2: :dance2:

A source close to the situation has told the Camera that there was some real interest in the Buffs' first-year head coach by Texas A&M, but Boyle will not pursue the opportunity to remain in the Big 12 and is committed to coaching CU in the Pac-12 next season.

-and-

With increasing interest in Boyle's services and CU set to receive $21 million annually from the new Pac-12 television deal beginning in 2012-13, athletic director Mike Bohn will likely be looking to give the men's basketball coach a raise.

Thank you, Mr. Thorburn, for delivering the news!

Hells yeah!!!

I'll believe this when they hire someone else. A source said that he will not pursue it. That doesn't sound very convincing. If A&M actually offers him the job, and it includes a lucrative contract, Tad's reportead sentiment could change.

NO chance. Stop being Debbie Downer.

yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay

This talk about Boyle to A&M has been nothing but a bunch of Texas sized hot air all along. It's Chip Brown trying to screw with CU - again. It must really annoy those douchebags that we told them we'd be better off without them in our lives.

Something tells me we'll have to get used to this every time a big coaching job opens up. Not a bad thing as it means Boyle has CU on the winning side. The good thing is with the new practice facility, and TV money coming in from the PAC 12 deal, the CU job could become one of the more desirable jobs in the country.

And then they see it come true (new PAC TV contract, etc.).

Thorburn confirmed via twitter that the part of the story about TAMU coveting Boyle had legs. Guess they won't be squeezing their balls and yelling "Hook 'em Ags!" or whatever. Screw those guys.

Well done. You would fit in brilliantly in God's asshole (ie, Texass).

Things may change in the future but for right now I don't think we have to worry about Tad going anywhere. He has made it clear that he wants to live in Colorado, his family likes being in Colorado, and he likes being at CU.

If (when) CU steps up with a new contract then he will not have a significant financial reason to leave either.

Bottom line is that eventually Tad may leave for a different job. When he does it will be for a job that he considers a significant step up and aTm, despite their Texas as the center of the universe fantasies is not a significant step up. In terms of a step up I am talking about a perenial top 15 or better power like Kansas, Duke, Arizona, etc. Until Tad has some significant seasons in Boulder then those offers aren't going to come, on the other hand if he is winning enough in Boulder to get those offers he is less likely to want to leave anyways.

Bottom line is that as long as CU treats Tad well the likelyhood of him leaving exist but is not great. If he does leave it will mean that the Buffs have done some significant winning on the court so we have a much stronger program than the one he took over for the next coach with more resources available to hire the next guy. We win either way...

ATM has had a very nice 7-8 years, but i think one could legitimately raise the question of what ATM hoops support would be like IF the football team was a legit top 10-15 type team for a few years in a row. we've been nothing special....sometimes good, mostly average, and sometimes awful....but, ATM was terrible in the past....and especially in the SWC. Recall that ATM is the team that went 0-16 in conference. granted, they have a spanky, still sort of new gym and have some decent support. ATM is a football school. wasn't that long ago i read a multipage thread at texags.com of them trying to figure out what the rpi is.

Boyle has a relationship with Bohn, and some common experience as CO kids who went to KU....the ATM booster/AD scene is something out of a parodic novel with the Fran special email list, Byrne being a weirdo who's AD lost a lot of money last year (as i recall?), and all the secret mumbo jumbo of not REALLY being an Aggie. too many moving parts for me if my job is coaching basketball.

Looks like it's going to be Murray State's Billy Kennedy for the TAMU job. Kind of underwhelming to me, but there are Aggie ties, a solid recruiting network in Louisiana (with some ties to California and Florida), and he has won everywhere he's been. Could turn out to be a very good hire. Just not the name splash that I think a lot of Ags were expecting.

not a stunner of a hire, but it makes sense. guy has won everywhere, was going to get a shot somewhere at the big level. i'm not sure ties to the South are better than the incredible boom of talent in Texas in the last decade, however. would have been nifty to get Pastner or Buzz Williams but doesn't look like those guys were really available.

kinda surprised Greg Marshall from Wich State made it through the coaching carousel this year without getting a new gig. with all respect to us, WSU was the best team in the NIT. they pretty much dominated.

with the old conference in the rear view, i've been following Big 8 hoops my whole life...gonna be hard to move on a bit.....the conference loses Anderson and Turgeon, gains Haith and Kennedy. loses Pat Knight and Jeff Capel, gets back Gillespie and Kruger. kind of a zero sum all things considered. i was thinking that maybe i pick a new team and follow the Big Whatever casually. not sure who that team would be.....i know it's not KU, KSU, UT, ATM, Baylor, Tech. dislike those schools. i lived in Norman in HS when my mom got remarried, maybe OU since my step-dad is a great guy and a longtime hoops donor at OU....but i like OSU too, over the years. GIA is awesome, Lloyd Noble is a cookie cutter arena. no real character. i really liked watching Eddie Sutton's teams play. tough man D. nice motion style O. i liked Ford at first (great shooter at MU and Kentucky...as was Bill Self back in the day), but they seem to be treading water as a bubble team. i liked Anderson but he's gone. ISU is non-offensive and Hilton is pretty cool but the McDonald's large fries unis are bad.

I believe Tad when he says CU is his dream job. However, one day he may wake up if people begin throwing $1.5 million or higher at him. I think on of Mike's priorities will be to increase HC salaries across the board. At least for men's and women's basketball and football.

Tads here unless Kansas comes calling, which would be a good thing because that'd mean we're a top tier team with him.

Where's Manning coaching?

a lot people think he's just an ornament on the bench. i have no idea. however, going out on your own a la Johnny Dawkins to Stanford after years on K's bench hasn't probably increased his stock for the Duke job when for a while he was the heir apparent. Dawkins was a very good and smart player that sort of fits the coaching profile, Manning was a spectacular talent but hard to know what Danny's got upstairs. His dad was driving a truck in NC when Larry Brown offered him an assistant coaching job at KU while Danny was in HS (one of if not the #1 recruit at the time)....for those who may not remember some of the truths about the KU "mystique". they have not ever been above going below board to get theirs.

anyway, on the Aggie boards over the weekend a lot of grousing about Turgeon's apparently consistent complaining about attendance both publicly and privately in Collie Station. and they have a newish, very nice arena. see my earlier posts where i wonder out loud about ATM's enduring hoops fan support re: football. i'm sure there's some sour grapes involved, but doesn't sound like Turge looking for greener pastures at a *basketball school* came as a shock many Ag hoops fans.
