CU extends Boyle, Lappe

I would guess that Lappe is a year away from earning a major pay bump. Make the Dance again and she'll be taken care of.

Looks like the adminstration is starting to get the message that it costs big money to maintain success in athletics.

And I don't think it was DiStef's call in this case.

Does anyone know where this ranks Tad in comparison with all the other coach's salaries?

Dunno about a specific number ranking. But within about $100,000 of what Gonzaga's coach, Mark Few earned. It's a competitive salary for a coach that has had a lot of success very quickly. I imagine the contract will be continually amended, if Boyle continues to raise the bar.

Average pay for this past season's head coaches in NCAA Tournament was $1.47 million. Obviously when you weed out the Lehigh's and focus on the power conference programs, it goes even higher.

Sean Miller makes $2.518 million, guaranteed $100K increase each year, extra $985K in potential incentives possible.

This is what was nice about the restructuring of tads contract (aside from him getting paid market rate)

CU also agreed to a clause that will provide an additional $65,000 in assistant coach salaries for Boyle's assistants beginning in 2014.

I think he is right about even with his conference finishes. 5th or 6th

Not in line with his March record, though. NIT Final 4, Pac-12 Title w/ Rd of 32, and NCAA at-large bid. Based on performance over the past 3 years, he should be in the Top 3 for Pac-12 salary when you also consider where the program came from before this.

I think we give him a raise when he earns it. Top 3 conference finishes and sweet 16's. Increase revenue and increase your salary. I am happy for my basketball donation to go to his paycheck.

We're never going to be paying more than UCLA or Arizona, so that makes 3rd the only realistic ceiling for the time being. Then you add in guys who are much more proven entities like Montgomery, Altman and Romar (for what he has established at UW over the last decade)...hell, even Herb Sendek was a proven entity... and I think it's reasonable to see why we're still playing catch-up in the Pac, to an extent.

I'm happy to see us paying slightly above the market for coaches who made the NCAA Tournament.

I agree. Tad is now getting paid enough to keep the random wannabe programs (I'm looking at you, Nebraska) from making a play for his services.
