USAFA, Colo. — Running in his first track race since the 2011 season, University of Colorado senior Joe Bosshard showed that he was back in racing form by winning the 3,000-meter run at the Air Force Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
Bosshard won the 3k race with a dominating performance, finishing in 8 minutes, 35.66 seconds and defeating the rest of the field by almost 15 seconds. His next closest competition came from teammate sophomore Pierce Murphy, who recorded a runner-up finish in 8:50.56. Bosshard sat out the 2012 and 2013 seasons due to injury and was awarded his sixth-year of eligibility to finish his collegiate career this spring.
Bosshard’s finish helped the CU men capture the men’s Division I team title in the meet with 148 points. CU’s men came away with four victories on Saturday, including a pair from senior Shaw Gifford who sprinted away with wins in the 60 and 200-meter dashes. He had a very close race in the 60, finishing in 6.75, just one-hundredth of a second in front of CSU’s Marcus Harris (6.76). Gifford improved his time in the finals by .12 seconds after running 6.88 in the prelims where he was fourth overall.
