CU to play Oklahoma State at MGM in Vegas on Dec 20th

GREAT opportunity for the Mayor too. He'll be going against one of the best PG's in the game (if not the best). Lots of scouts will be watching them.

Wonder what sort of crowd we'll get for that game. The added game makes sense, Okie Lite and Colorado are both likely in the same boat, projected to have highly competitive ranked teams, but without enough name cachet to get good teams to agree to home and homes, particularly a home game this year that would likely be a loss for most teams. So a neutral game makes sense for both teams, and Vegas is a location that might actually get fans to attend a neutral site game.

Plus, having it at the MGM will help the team to mentally prepare for the conference tourney there in March.

I like this game a lot because it will help our RPI and help us prepare for conference play and give Dinwiddie a good challenge with Smart, but I wish we didn't have RPI killers in Jackson State, Tennesee Martin, etc. I'd rather play a a couple of exhibition games that don't count than those teams. That's teh only downside of the schedule.

Those two are hardly the kiss of death (See below). We're so gun shy from 2011 that many think two wins over likely 300+ RPI teams may cost us a tourney bid. I might be jumping to conclusions here, but I don't think we're in Virginia territory unless we lose one of these games.

Anyway, I'm happy with the schedule thus far and I love this addition. We're a trendy pre-season top 25 pick even without Andre. We're going to play Kansas, Oklahoma State (Neutral court = bigger chance for a RPI boost than a home game), Air Force (Road), Wyoming, and Colorado State (Road). Based on this article, we could add a few more RPI builders before getting into Pac 12 play. Ya, Air Force, Wyoming and Colorado State won't be near the teams we faced this past season. They're still solid programs that play in a respected conference.

Now, we just can't lose to these teams..

Tourney teams that played TN-Martin last year:

Cincinnati
Memphis
Saint Louis

Tourney teams that played Jackson St last year:

St. Mary's

Others:

Baylor
Air Force
Wazzou
Washington

The round robbin will be a none issue with the OOC schedule he is looking to build. Love the neutral site games right around the holidays and great experience for the team. Tad just plain get's it and is working it hard. #RollTad

I'm very excited about the OK St. game as well as the Kansas game. I think they are both winnable for us. Also we may draw a larger crowd than OK St. due to the fact that Colorado is 11 hours away while OK St. is 17 hours from Vegas. OK St. is going to be a very deep team. They are only losing two seniors, that were essentially non-contributors, while returning Marcus Smart, who could very well end up on the All-American team. I think that Dinwiddie has the skill and confidence to run with Smart and that should be tremendous for our team. I'm hoping that we can keep our heads small and continue to play with the underdog mentality.

Another huge plus that comes from playing these Top 15 teams on a continual basis in the non-confernce is, recruiting. This game will certainly be on National Television, and that will help recruits watch our games. If we can contend and beat these Power House schools in the non-confernce, recruits will take notice. Of course I am not saying they haven't, but it's just another step in the right direction for Tad Boyle and our Program.

IMO, with OSU, Kansas and the MWC games, our OOC is fine. Now we have to win, or at least a split with the Big 12 schools. Hopefully, we're not a bubble team anyway.

Excellent news. It was beyond essential that we added another big opponent. Vegas is crucial for Pac-12 tournament preparation, it's a no-brainer to play there.

Keep in mind we're quite likely not going to get anywhere near the positive return on RPI from the MWC opponents this upcoming season that we got last year.

It's on the football team to make this a completely epic Buffs weekend in Vegas.

The MAACO Las Vegas Bowl gets the 5th selection of Pac-12 teams (playing the MWC #1). The game is expected to be the same weekend.

Saw this link and found it interesting (not claiming credibility of the source). This blogger mentions the amicable departure of Colorado from the Big XII as a contributing factor to the scheduling. I'm impressed. Virginia Tech has left (not always on our terms) every conference prior to the ACC with one party or the other holding the finger.

Rant has no credibility. I think CU maintained good relationships with the ex-Big 8 universities along with Texas Tech and Texas A&M. Not necessarily Texas and Baylor. What I can't remember is whether CU publicly opposed or supported the Oklahoma State/Oklahoma bid to join the Pac-12.

I don't think there is any animosity among the original Big 8. Its just those assholes from Texas.

Edit: Nik beat me to it and put it more eloquently. As always.

you brought that on yourselves with your crybaby tantrum re: original ACC expansion plans that didn't include you, and then your two-faced turnaround weeks later.

CU and Okie St have always had a very cordial relationship. CU and Texas, on the other hand...

Oh, and **** Baylor.

I would agree, but I like the idea of scheduling home and homes with that conference. Good for learning to win on the road plus the games wouldn't be too far from home and in the two time zones we'll be playing in all year. Plus the geography makes for a good Buff showing in the visitor seats if our traveling reputation continues to improve.

The only flak I can think of during the PAC's second time around was Benson making some sort of statement about not having paid all that that money to move to the PAC 12 to get closer to our west coast alumni only to get relegated to the Big 12 North 2.0 (I'm paraphrasing but I think it was something along those lines). It was never clear to me if the PAC balked when it became clear Texas wouldn't budge, or Okie was just leveraging the PAC in their negotiations with Bevo to try and get them to make revenue and rights concessions to save the Big 12. Both sides have publicly claimed to have been the party to walk away from the deal, which is typically the case in situations like that prevent either party from losing too much face.

Little disagreement on that point regarding our exit from the Big East -- it certainly wasn't VT's proudest moment. I remember talk radio in Blacksburg mentioning "if you're a Tech fan, don't watch SportsCenter for the next week unless you want to hear Virginia Tech get ripped". However, I don't think that statement applies to VT's exit from the Metro or Southern conferences prior to that.

Still, I remain impressed that CU exited the BigXII on such good terms. Looking forward to picking up on the history of the CU program.

I think I can swing the 20 minute drive from my house. Great news! Merry Christmas to me.
