CUBuffs.com: Buffs To Entertain TCU At Home On Friday (Soccer, 4:30 MT start)

BOULDER – Colorado welcomes one of its top non-conference opponents to Prentup Field on Friday (4:30 p.m. kickoff/TV: Pac-12 Mountain) when TCU comes to Boulder. The Horned Frogs enter the weekend with a 2-0 record, defeating both ULM and UTSA by scores of 5-0. They, like the Buffs, are one of 39 teams in the country to open the season with back-to-back shutouts.

TCU is also coming off its first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance and returns seven starters from a team that reached the second round.

What separated TCU from CU during the season's opening weekend was the offensive output. TCU's 35 points (10 goals and 15 assists) were the second-most in the nation, while the Buffs managed just one goal and one assist for three points.

LOOKING AHEAD
CU hosts UC Riverside on Sunday at 1 p.m. The Highlanders are 1-1 on the season, winning 1-0 over Southern Utah and falling 1-0 to Idaho. They finished last season 5-10-4.

Yep- and with TCU getting 5 goals in both of their matches played this season, sounds like the defenders and goalies can expect a much bigger test than they've faced also.
 
Was at the match this afternoon - blazing hot with almost no win. Another example of why CU needs a lighted stadium.

TCU looks to be a very good team, certainly NCAA tourney worthy. They had the Buffs pinned down early on and looked the more likely to score. Not that they were getting shots on goal, but they had the majority of possession. This changed a bit after there was a brief break in the match due to an injury to a TCU player. It was a bit after this that Joss rand down the left side with the ball and lofted a high cross to . . . Taylor of course. She lofted a header over the keeper and into the net. How many game winners have she scored in her career? It's amazing.

TCU never gave up and often would advance the ball to the final third or so, but never got a shot on goal. They did launch shots, but couldn't get one on target. A few of them were free headers, but from a distance.

Limiting the Horned Frogs chances was a stout defense, and in particular stellar play by freshman central defender Hannah Cardenas and defensive midfielders Alex Vidger and Cassie Phillips. Cardenas was exceptional in tackling the ball or straight up winning it time and time again.

This was a very important win for RPI. The next challenge comes on Sept. 4 when BYU is in town.
