Curious: how much blame does Tad Boyle deserve for CU's struggles in 2016-17?

Tad Boyle is an honest, straight shooting coach. He has a great basketball IQ and knows his players' strengths and their weaknesses. He's never been afraid to call them out, or shoulder the blame for losses.

That said, how much criticism does he deserve for the team's showing so far this year? Do you feel that he has not developed some of his seniors in the most effective manner? Do you limit the heat and criticism to the players on the court for having sloppy games and not knocking down shots?

If you were Rick George, how would you gauge Boyle's performance this season? Does he deserve any of the blame? To go a bit further, do you think that George's standards for success are on the level of a NCAA tourney berth? If so, then what does a non-invite to the tourney come March do to Tad Boyle's standing here at CU?

Is there a time in the near future when not making the tourney will be determined to be mediocrity (if it isn't already so now?) Especially with how much next year is going to be on the shoulders of younger players, if the team continues to struggle to win 20 games (this year, or maybe next,) at what point does Boyle find himself on the hot seat?

Or am I just bring crazy. Is Tad Boyle largely blameless here?

Tad's "defense and rebounding" isn't for everyone, and it's not what this particular team is good at. This team isn't built for success in tge half court. Tad deserves the blame for not changing his style to fit the pieces he has.

Tad built this team. These are his players that he recruited to run his system. He deserves the blame for not recognizing their inability to run his system.

However, I hesitate to throw around terms like "blame" when it comes to CU men's hoops. Tad Boyle is the best thing to ever happen to CU men's hoops.

Buck stops with the HC. Of course Tad gets the blame, just as he gets the credit when the program is successful.

Maybe with younger and hungrier players next season, the Buffs bounce back. It might be me or does it seem like CU's seniors and juniors aren't as hungry as they used to be?

The blame lies with Tad and staff missing on two straight recruiting classes. Was unable to capitalize on momentum and it has come back to bite them in the ass. The trend is being reversed but it won't be here in time to help this season.

Missed layups, open 3's, and ft's. Its been soooo maddening. The thing is if they beat CSU and ASU like they should have this thread doesn't exist yet.

This is true. sitting at 12-3 with 3 wins over ranked opponents would be a much better spot.

Yup. This is one of those years you really wish Tad believed in zone defense.

One issue oi have with the team and one I believe Boyle could have solved for is team chemistry - this is the second time we've had Co-Alpha's and the second time it hasn't worked. One of those two would have either grad transferred out or not transferred in.

Scott really should have hurt his back a lot worse and a lot sooner two seasons ago. That way he could have redshirted and we'd have him this season. :D

Tad deserves some of the blame, but a lot of this falls on team chemistry and lack of leadership. If you analyze the two most frustrating seasons over the past few years, you'll note that there are certain players present on both. I'm going to stop short of using the word "cancer", but let's say these certain individuals do nothing for the team off the court and definitely don't create a positive environment. Tad has said off the record in certain small group meetings and events that there are current players on this team that are some of the most frustrating he's ever coached. I think you'll see a whole different attitude and passion next year.

Well XJ is the obvious one. He's always thought he was a much bigger deal than he ever was.

Id imagine Gordon is the other one. Very lackadaisical attitude on the court and seemingly hasnt put in the work to improve any aspect of his game in 5 seasons.
