DC Baer?

What's up with this guy? seems like alot of folks on here don't like him(which might mean that he is a great dc) been a dc for something like 19/20 years at a bunch of different pac schools and nd. not knowing much about him he looks good on paper.

Has a track record of making bad defenses worse. In our case that might be a double negative... hire him now!!

Statistically his Pac 12 teams have done very poorly on average. Obviously it is up to MacIntyre, but I would hope for an upgrade here.
Wasn't there some talk about bringing Justin Wilcox in when Jones was interviewing? Was that rumor or is it a possibility?

I think he looks ok, except those couple of years at W. we will say that was Ty Willingham's (not being a racist, so don't go there) fault is he joins the staff. Did good against some pretty stout teams the past couple of years

Given some of his past results, I'm not over the moon thrilled with him coming along. However, if MikeMac is comfortable with the guy and that's who he brings, I'm okay with it. Especially since MikeMac is an ex-DC, so in my mind, the DC position isn't as critical and it's as much about the pair as anything. I do like that the guy has a lot of experience as a DC in the P10, so if nothing else, that's a huge upgrade from our last DC.

MacIntyre has made some points about getting local guys so they dont bolt. With that in mind, maybe Wristen, what do you think? I am baffled at what he has done in Pueblo. Of all the instate coaches he is my favorite.

Won't Mike Mac be the defacto DC anyway? I'm less worried about the defense because of our HC. I'm more concerned about the offensive staff.

While I personally do not like Baer as a UW fan, I'm not sure how much Baer was allowed to coach under Willingham.

Ty Willingham is IMO worse than Hawkins or Embree as a coach and recruiter.

Anyway, what I find interesting is that the Husky D Line was horrid too under Willingham. The guy in charge, Randy Hart, was also with the Huskies during their run in the late 80s through 90s. He was there at UW's worst along with Baer under Willingham. Now he's running the DL at Stanford, and they've been pretty good the past few years.

This year, he just walked away with the FootballScoop DL coach of the year award...

So, how much fault is it for an assitant to coach under a terrible HC? That is the million dollar question.

Despite my first reaction to dislike Baer (king of the 15 yard corner cushions on receivers during the Willingham tenure), perhaps he's a good fit with Coach MacIntyre. Hard to say but I'd have to trust Coach. With that said, keep him on a short leash if the D does not improve quickly...

I was hoping you'd weigh in, DD.

I might be able to overlook Baer's shortcomings if it was only at one place, but it sounds like he has sucked pretty much his entire career. For whatever reason, Willingham just couldn't resist taking him everywhere with him, even though defenses ranked in the 100s went with him.

While I have my reservations about Baer, I'm fine with giving the coach the benefit of the doubt. (until the defense gives us a yard vs CSU)

Randy Hart is to UW what Cabral is to CU.

Jury is out with Baer. He took a paycheck under Ty.

When Ty was hired, he spent the first part of January on a golf trip. No recruiting at all.

If Mac wants him fine. No 15 yard cushions is all. You beat the spread by jamming receivers on the line and having an aggressive and rangy LB core. Here's where Cabral comes in.

Need Dizon's and Chad Brown's roaming the middle.

Seems Baer has a history of having success early then dropping off drastically after a few seasons. I would be ok if he got the SJSU HC job.
