Decision Day #2 Thread

Well Reed made an effort with yesterday's decision day thread. Here we go again. I think the attitude from ABers right now is quite different.

Many of us are having 2nd thoughts on him. I am one of them. I don't like how indecisive he is.

I realize it is a big decision for him and his family but he signed up for this career and this is how the game works.

BJ is keeping a lot of teams, and people on hold. Cinci on hold, CU on hold, the fan bases of both teams, recruits and potential recruits for both teams, his current assistant coaches, and other coaches hoping to move up (e.g. DeRuyter, etc.) and their teams wondering if their coaches will be around next year (and their recruits, etc.)

Point is, in this business coaches need to be decisive. If they are going to stay, then renegotiate. If they are going to go, get the best interviews you can and make a decisive decision.

If he ends up coming I will welcome him, but he is not creating the best 1st impression.

If he's not our man, next one up, Bohn-go get em and Go Buffs. Our future absolutely looks brighter either way.
 
He only wait one extra day so far, no reason to panic. Likely our next target is still sitting out there from the sounds of it.
 
Is it possible that there has been no indecision whatsoever, and the plan has always been that he would announce his intentions on Wednesday, be announced at the basketball game Wednesday night, and be at a press conference on Thursday?

I am definitely not panicking. I know there are some good candidates out there still that are high on our board. I am just disappointed in BJ´s indecision on this.

Keep in mind, while he was only in Boulder 2 days ago, he had the proposed contract offer for days before that.

Wow you are glass half full aren´t you :)

I say no way (not that it is impossible he won´t show up tonight at CEC but that that has been the plan the whole time) because
1.) He was reportedly negotiating new terms with UC president and AD yesterday. That wouldn´t happen if your proposal was true
2.) Zero reports that there has been a meeting with the players yet. He would have wanted them to know first before the media and everyone else jumped on it.
 
Still for Butch, need to keep in mind we know less than we think we though. Personally, think he is seeing how far leverage gets him.

That is pretty bad. 35,000 seat stadium. 21,000 fans for their final home game of the season. Even with Water Bottle's terrible team the Buffs drew more than 35,000 to the games.

Given that information, I am surprised that Cincinnati has the financial means to put up the same money as Colorado. Especially in lieu of their conference situation. (Although I believe the Big 12 is considering Cincinnati)

Yah I read that recently too. And the plans they are supposedly floating BJ are to expand the stadium in hopes they will be more atrractive to the Big 10 or ACC in the near future.

Their conference has imploded and is losing its AQ status. Hard to believe why he would stay unless maybe he is afraid of failing at CU? Some say that CU is a graveyard b-c many coaches who have failed at CU haven`t gotten other opportunities.

I'm sure some will say that, but it isn't remotely true.

McCartney retired from coaching, and has never coached again.

Neuheisel left CU - and coached at Washington and UCLA.

Barnett's off-the-field problems (scandals both at Northwestern and CU) are the reason he has never gotten another coaching job.

Hawkins will get another coaching job, it's just a matter of where. He's a finalist for the UTEP job.

Embree should never have been hired in the first place. Not remotely ready. If he continues to coach, he will get another shot somewhere, some day. (Unless his antics over the past week have completely turned people off in that regard)

I heard an interview yesterday with a media guy from Cincy. Sounds like that 21K figure was really only around 15K.
 
I've calmed a bit from yesterday. I'm not upset at Jones unless he doesn't announce either way today. His flight didn't get back to Cincy until 11 p.m. so once home it was probably well after midnight. He had to get up yesterday an get the 'counteroffer' from Cincy and deal with that presser. Sounds like last night would have been the first time he would have been able to sit down with his family and go over their options. Maybe after what he heard what Cincy offered he had to contact CU to see what they could counter ? Contracts don't get written in an hour. This is a life changing decision for not only for he and his family but also the coaches he would end up bringing to Boulder. I won't be concerned about his decision making skills unless be hear nothing today.
 
I think we'll hear something today. I've gone round and round with this guy in my head. Yesterday afternoon, I thought he was going to stay and I was fine with it. Now, I think he is the best candidate out there for us and I'm a little more encouraged that he is coming here. Would be nice to introduce him at the game tonight.
 
If he stays, he remains a hot coaching prospect and can expect other offers in the near future. To me, that is what he is struggling with. Not CU vs Cincinatti.
 
Hello CU fans, UC fan here. This is an interesting time for all of us and we are all a bit on edge waiting for a decision from CBJ. He is a great person and has been great for our city and University and I really hope he stays. He has formed many bonds with students and the community, and I am sure that is weighing heavily on him. If he leaves I would understand, Cincinnati is a tough sports town, a pro sports town. While our attendance has gotten much better over the years, we are not where we need to be every game. Competition is heavy with the Reds and Bengals for dollars. With the conference realignment in transition, it has to be very tempting to jump to something stable such as the PAC 12, and in a beautiful part of the country. I spent time at Lowry AFB while it was open and traveled many a times to Boulder for some "relaxation" time, and I loved it there. If CBJ decides to join you all I would understand and I would become a remote fan of CU. Best of luck.
 
So, if this day ends badly, how much egg is on Bohn's face? McChesney thinks a lot.
 
I earlier commented that this is a great job because there's no chance he doesn't improve the landscape. But there are risks I suppose.

What I observed is that a new coach can lose unlimited games in year 1 and it won't derail things. If Jones came in and won 3-4, there'd be solid momentum. But even a 1-2 win game won't derail the rebuilding. Recruits by and large look forward after year 1.

Year 2, you got to show progress and if you don't. You can lose serious recruiting momentum. Again, this won't completely kill you, but it makes it tougher.

I've seen some good coaches really struggle to get "this thing going" and there is some risk you can't get it going and after 3-4 year, nobody remembers what a great coach you were at Cincinnati and you are now a coach on the hot seat.

I still say that the Colorado job is a plum job to really put the finishing touch on a good (not great) resume for Jones. He gets Colorado back to respectable and he's in the talks for top-10 jobs in the country. Or he can stay here and get Colorado from respectable to top 10 himself.

So, I have no concerns with him taking extra time. If I were him I'd be looking at some tape. How bad is Colorado? How much was coaching? How much was youth? How much was "give up"? Which assistants are willing to leave Ohio area? Can we recruit quickly out there? Who's in?

Family situation? Is Colorado being square with me? Who is this Solich guy and where has he been? Is Bohn going to be around after he hires me?

I like guys who do diligence. This is a huge decision. I give him to 6pm today.

Nice post. What is the feeling out there as to what he will decide? If he leaves, would UC hire from his staff?

Nice post. The fact he hasn't bailed yet tells us he is conflicted. Frankly on paper, there isn't a lot of football reasons to keep the guy in Cincy. But personal reasons can often outweigh the football reasons.
